CliffsNotes for 20 Years of Punk Rock Research:

The greatest thing about punk bands above all else is their sense of humor. Humorless people make for bad company whether they're running a soulless bar or playing in a disingenuous band. Lacking a sense of humor and a willingness to be candid may be the greatest sins of all.

I recently read Eric Davidson's "We Never Learn". Great book. It reminded me that my favorite artists always had a great sense of humor and actually REALLY don't give a shi$.

The origin of the word punk is even kind of a joke. It's not really music by or for young gay prostitutes. I've been to plenty of gay bars. They're usually a refreshing escape. Yes, I am a little upset that the term "gay" has been usurped by, well, gays, but not that upset, of course. They're pretty comfortable with that conversation.

20 seconds of punk rock research was a reference to being dropped on my face, not a critique on red menace's comments.

This post may have serendipitously coincided with another ironic punk rock reunion. I wasn't intending to critique that, but I can't say I don't always get a real kick out of the absurdity of that.

If you can't find common ground among the collective absurdity and humor in all of this musical bs and random maniacal expression and laugh and make amends and move on, then I'd say you're kind of eternally screwed.

If saying that your favorite bands didn't give a shit somehow translates into it being so good to not give a shit, your critical thinking meter just took a crap.

An example:

"Most of my favorite authors were alcoholics or chain smokers".

The above statement does not suggest that alcoholism or chain-smoking are good. It also does not suggest that not doing those things is bad.

I have no favorite bands and no person is going to write music that changes anything, so whats the point?

i find it very hard to believe that a contingent of calgary escorts have the best collection of punk and metal tapes in Ohio. Can anyone else confirm this?
