Sweet. Thanks, Sperry. I thought that the sound and performance were better than the Southgate show but for most hardcore GBV fans that maybe sacrilege. Southgate is a much better venue, altogether, of course, but sometimes the sound there is muffled. I think the general consensus for out-of-towners was that the Outland show was a bit oversold and the hall is too long and narrow ("Hey, look. That's my favorite band way down there!"). I managed to be front and center, so, no qualms for me. Seems like folks thought that security was a little over-zealous and aggressive, too. Why do they give a fu#$ if people are filming? Freaking weirdos. Altogether, good times, though.

I thought the show was wonderful. It felt just like them ol' days. Perfect setlist, not a dud in sight.

...that said. This is an awful venue (though sound and vision was just fine). It's like God swallowed Skully's and puked it up on Front St.

$6 PBR tallboys? And yes, the security needed to cool it. I hate when venues seem to have no clue what to do when all of the sudden their bar is full. I was told I would be removed for jumping up and down in place. The guy next to me got the same warning and argued that "there's nothing wrong with being excited," for his retort he was physically removed from the crowd.

edit: Did TNV open? I think I just heard Bob say they did and something about being dropped from Matador? i'm behind on alot of things.

Nick Mitchell (not Mitch's borther, btw) opened with Bob covers that he and Bob picked. He does a great job covering Bob's songs. TNV opened the first 8 shows. Would've loved to have seen them open in Columbus.

One more vote for "Fuck the Security at Outland". Worse than any Promowest venue. They were looking for anyone to toss out. Fuck that. This is not Miami or some shit.

WORST VENUE SECURITY I've experienced in a very long time.

I got harassed to put out a cig (I don't smoke, so there wasn't one) not once, but TWICE. Security guy was a total douchbag about it basically telling me he saw me smoking. Again, I was not, I've never smoked. Lord knows there were tons of guys around me smoking, but when you confront someone for a second time, make sure you see the infraction happen, jackass. They also kicked a few people out for recording footage on their point & shoot cameras/phones, when's the last time you saw that? Basically they were a bunch of concert security noobs with tribal tats, hopped up on Red Bull & 5 hour energy.

IMO, the venue was also waaaay oversold, I remember the "hey we found more tickets post on facebook"... really?

Venue sounded "ok" at best which is saying something because the room is just not a good one, terrible lighting included.

GBV deserve better.

The recording is uncut and I didn't do anything to EQ the levels. Dial the bass back when you listen and it clears up some things. I set my deck above the soundboard which was pretty far back so the recording came out bassy. My deck was high enough that you get the crowd sing along but not one individual who thinks they are actually in the band and ruins for everyone.

I haven't seen any other recordings yet of this tour and expected to see more tapers at Outland but there were none.

And yes, security was annoying.

i kinda know the place and can tell you that the dousche bags doing security are basically 'homers'. meaning... they generally work with low key industrial/goth folks that are their friends. everyone else can go to hell. i've seen some of the most horrendous abuses of "security" in that place.

anyways... i enjoyed the show, what i saw of it. starting a show so early really caught me off guard. i only saw the tail end
i was so excited to see them, it was disappointing to only catch a half hour.

I tracked this out in a drunken stupor Saturday night and it seems like there is a section missing(1st encore?) now that I am listening. I will take another look tonight and see.

I have to agree with Wes, Swans was perfect at Outland. I haven't had much experience with their security though.

I remember the Newport security being dicks since like '95. Was Outland security worse?
