Comfest still has no corporate sponsorship, correct?

The idea that it is not a commercial for anything is pretty cool.

To me, that right there makes it all-around better than those "other festivals."

True, to my knowledge Comfest is the longest running, all volunteer run, non-corporate sponsored festival in the country.

Getting mentioned in that coward rag is like being mentioned in a church bulletin. The internet, on the other hand, is the motherfucking shit.

It always cracks me up when someone who posts anonymously talks about cowards.

Sorry, I forget that this board is composed of mostly norms that don't listen to the ill-na-na. I'm talking Christians as cowards (get familiar- Immolation "close to a world below" as a reference point or semi-local Tumor Feast demo).

Bela! It's Comfest! That's like going to the barber and asking them not to cut your hair.... :)

Seriously. The best I've been able to do for my daughter is let her see, with parental supervision, all comfest has to offer... I def don't want her discovering it on her own, like I did. I also think that there's a magic few years where kids are social enough to get social identity, but not so identity conscious as to get sucked into something stupid -- they're not only less seduced by bullshit, but have better receptors for it.

Never had an issue bringing my daughter to Comfest, but, I do live a charmed life. My concern was protecting her ear drums. They take a long time to develop. Kids under 6 or 7 years old have no business being in front of the mains, but, it was a pleasure to see her yelling at Earwig at the side of the offramp stage, "You guys rock!" at the age of 4 before they tore into a set.

Well said, my dear. As a MUSICIAN (and a longstanding MUSICIAN) in Columbus, I know that my tastes are not always catered to, but hell, I have been surprised to the point of giddiness every single year I go to Comfest (Brainbow, excellent example last year; Evil Queens, 3 years ago; Church of the Red Museum, 2 years ago).

Thanks, Suebee. The 2007 comfest was hands down the best experience on stage we have ever had. It made every minute of the nearly 20 years we’ve been playing together totally worth it, not that it wouldn’t have been worth it otherwise, my only point here is that it was an absolute pinnacle. For reference, we opened for Wolfmother outside at the LC the following week and it wasn’t even close to being as rewarding. I’d take a show at comfest over playing with “national” (whatever the hell that really means) every time. Sure, not getting picked sucks, but it’s no reason not to sit in the park and drink warm beer with yr friends, or maybe it is, Music (and Comfest) only has the value you give it, the rest is all bullshit.

I cringe whenever I see some couple with their infant near the marshall stacks. I recall a few years back a bohemian bourgeoise couple, carefully covering their kid from the harsh sun, only to see them deafen their child to the strains of the Unholy Two or whoever that was.

This is what I was trying to say, in a nutshell. Perception is key. If you want it to mean something, it will. Going on a world tour could be a personal hell, depending upon how you look at it.

First off, your avatar pic is godlike.

Second, now I picture a Bitterness Super Sentai where five Smiths-T-shirt wearing, coffee-and-cigarette unrecognized, unloved, or otherwise underappreciated musicians jump on each other's shoulders to form SunVoltron and take you on.

Zach Starkey cries out.... "And *I'll* form the HAIR!"

SunVoltron. I think that bears repeating. SunVoltron. I don't want this post callously overlooked.

I have pictures of that. I actually sent those to her Dad, but, forgot to get them to Lushko. I cringe when I see that, too.

Ditto. Maybe they should post warnings by the stages.

I gotta say after reviewing the lineup again that there's really not a moment of downtime where there won't be a band that I want to see.

That line-up SUCKS worse than ever! I tried to find five bands that I want to see. That said, I'm still gonna have a blast.
