Recently watched Spartacus and Lawrence of Arabia for the first time..

They're great. Any other suggestions? I'd prefer Hollywood, and the 60's, but all are welcome..

Gandhi (even tho it's from 80's) and Ben Hur are the only others that come to mind..Loved Gandhi and will watch again soon..Never seen Ben Hur.

Caligula is pretty epic.

Have not seen Lawrence of Arabia but I like Spartacus and Ben Hur. And there's The Vikings with Kirk Douglas. That was fun when I was a kid, but not sure how it would hold up now.

Excalibur?

I need to watch Barry Lyndon again. I remember liking it, although I also remember it being like 6 hours long.

What about The Fall? It had some epic elements to it, although some of those were kind of lifted from other movies.

You've probably already seen my favorites:

Casino
2001: A Space Odyssey
Apocalypse, Now! (the greatest film of all-time, of course- no sh#$, right? only possibly tied with Citizen Kane and Godfather I and II)
Reds
Nashville
Malcolm X

Definitely check out Barry Lyndon if you have not seen it. There are so many amazing shots without electrical lighting.

The 60s stuff I can't recommend because I haven't seen most of them. The Great Escape, Jason and the Argonauts, How the West was Won, you've probably already seen. The biblical stories were popular, then, which I always found were as sonorous as golf on a late Sunday afternoon. I enjoyed falling asleep to those.

(unposs) Caligula, the Vikings, Excalibur
(cruise) once upon a time in the west, deer hunter, thin red line, barry lyndon, cleopatra, ten commandments,
(fierce) 2001: A Space Odyssey, Apocalypse, Now!, Citizen Kane, Godfather I and II, Reds, The Great Escape, Jason and the Argonauts

I think all ^ those qualify as Epic..I've already watched a few of them and some are on reserve at library, others are being rewatched..
It's hard to actually define what Epic Film means..for me, it's been 'I know it when i see it' kind of things..Can anyone define Epic Film?

a bridge too far
the big red one

I'm looking for ^ these now..

Twilightman, I knew you'd come up with a superb list..Thanks.

Uh, something tells me if you click that link ^^^ you're headed to some \/1/\gR/\ spam.

Here is an obvious, albeit newer, epic film: The Lord of the Rings movies are pretty fucking epic. I recommend the extended cut editions. I'm sure you've already seen them, but worth mentioning.
