Welcome to CDRSCY2

The first installment of CDRSCY2! is from Toledo, Ohio's Puffy Areolas. The Puffies holed up in the CDR recording bunker late this past spring in order to record their debut Siltbreeze lp. We stood in the corner, wringing our hands in an evil fashion, biding our time until they finished recording, then we stole the best two songs. "Lutzko Lives" is a repetitious, frenetic rager that comes across as a captial-P Punk take on Funhouse-era Stooges or Lemmy-era Hawkwind. "Bowel Movement (It's All About) Featuring Raven" is the boys backing up Raven (Back to Ohio Blues Raven) on a psych blues suicide jam-ode to shitting. yup.



Last year, we felt like the scrips went too fast and not everybody that wanted one got one, so we're pressing up 400 scrips to sell this year. We've got about 50 scrips of year two left to sell, so this is probably last call if you wanna get one.

1. the TNV record release show after party at Bourbon St, on Wednesday night. Adam'll be around, and'll probably make it over to Bobo at around 11pm. The Unholy 2 and DJ Detox are playing.

2. Used Kids Records on Saturday, October 17th. We'll probably make it over there by 3, knowing how much we sleep in.

Returning to the tapedeck for the first time following a near two-yea imposed exile from recording may have taken a little bit of arm-twist all efforts were worth it in the end as we what was captured was two finest - easily recognizable to those who have been fortunate enough one of their ncreasingly rare shows. The band quotes Columbus lege here is a scorching race to the finish - fractured, melodic, explosive. inebriated postpunk.

Hue Blanc's Joyless Ones - "Smuggler's Choice" b/w "Familiar Pop"



HBJO are one of those great bands that make music writers sound like big dummies. These guys from Algoma, WI do an excellent job of leaving even the most learned nose picking record nerd with few options beyond naming off a big list of bands and saying "they kind of sound like that, but not really" I'm not exempt from this, so here is my list of bands...Bassholes, Neil Young, V3, shit, I even hear some Wedding Present in there, but, hey, they don't really sound like any of those bands. The only conclusion I can come to as to why these dudes leave us at such a loss is because they are just an excellent Rock band with little, if any pretense in their music. These two songs are an excellent addition to their catalog, as fine as anything they have done to date if not better.

Jakob Olausson - "Cornered in your Circle" b/w "A Faded Picture (L+R)"



Our first international production! We knew that Jakob was a big fan of the what has been going on in our spot on the map over the past few decades (Mike Rep & The Quotas' "Mama Was a Schizo Daddy Was a Vegetable Man" seven-inch was released on Olausson's own label, Old Age/Sverige Age), and so we finally mustered the guts to ask him if he'd be interested in taking part of the CDR-SC-Y2! The A-side"Cornered In Your Circle" is reminiscent of Jim Shepard's haunting Leonard Cohen covers from the 'Amsterdam' cassette, and the B-side is Jakob's tribute to the late Sky Saxon, a 7+ minute version of The Seeds classic "A Faded Picture" - pressed at 45 rpm with the song into two parts, panned dead left and right. So you play the side twice, one speaker at the time. In the words of Olausson himself "TRUE MONO!"

David Keenan (Volcanic Tongue) on Olausson's sole LP from 2006, 'Moonlight Farm': "His songs cross endless tranced dirges with drones that are so lunar they illuminate the entire horizon and huge distorto-smears of backing vox that sound like tiny fists crushing the light from stars. Some of the instrumentals here are so evocatively conceived – beautifully reconciling handmade DIY traditions and higher-minded bliss – that they sound positively Japanese, with a track like “The Wind Combs Her Hair” almost passing for early Ché-SHIZU. But it’s the songs you’ll keep coming back too, elegiac teleports to the fringes of a whole other evocatively conceived universe, where every breath births reverberant shadows and the map of yr desires reads like a mirror of the constellations. I Don't Care About Love, Baby b/w Pavilion in the Sand, Baby

The TV-obsessed, acid-casualty intergalactic Mormons known to all as the Outer Spacist return for another dose of Black Randy-fronting-the Alice Cooper Band bubblegum psychedelic punk. This is a more polished recording than their previous single, but it's clear the band is still turning out punk rock in the vein of Simply Saucer by taking cues from "Before the Golden Age" type pulp sci-fi, soul records from the 60's and citation needed Wikipedia entries on Midwestern turn of the century cults. These 3-songs were taken from the same session as their upcoming LP, which will see release later this year.

The Harrisburg Players, Vol. II

The second installment of unearthed gems from the archives (pool table, see cover) of Harrisburg, OH's proud sons Tommy Jay and Mike Rep. In this volume we bring you T.A. Lafferty's "Consolation Prize" (as heard on the You Are You compilation cassette), Ted Lust's "Am I Lying To Myself" (you may recognize his voice from "City of Sorrow" off of Nudge Squidfish's 20,000 Leagues LP), a track from Mike Rep called "Pumping Gas" recorded in 1973, a live version of Tommy Jay doing the True Believers' "Gusto Hungry" backed by The Harrisburg Players, and honorary Harrisburg'er Ron House singing his classic "Our Love To The Third Power" at a jam session/party loosely backed by Tommy Jay, Nudge Squidfish, Kurt Tuckerman, Ted Lust, Don Howland, and Jim Shepard.

This is an option 2 mailing, so anybody in the option 2 boat should expect CDR045, CDR046 and CDR047 in the next week or so. The local pickup for the Spacist record will be at Lost Weekend Records in Columbus, OH all weekend.
