Really, this wouldn't at all be possible without the massive volumes of arrogance, ineptitude and criminality of the George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and the rest of their crew.

Grover Nordquist once said he wanted government shrunk down to a small enough size that it could be drowned in a bathtub. Thankfully, this lot has so managed to mismanage and mislead that they've driven Republicans and conversatives into the wilderness (once again), hopefully to drown for good.

Good fucking riddance.

That must be a very young vintage.

Are you ever happy?

What does Grover Nordquist have to do with anything? Did the gov't shrink under GWB? No the size of gov't and more importantly (for the conversation, not for the good of the country) regulation increased, regardless of what the left said in the campaign.

Do you sit in your house and write screeds about George Bush? He isn't even President any more. How long until you move on?

You couldn't even show the departing President dignity on his last day in office, regardless of your disagreements with his policies. That is so sad.

My guess is this thread was started so people could talk about their joy over the inauguration. Feel free to join in. I thought it was a very good speech.

There are plenty future days for criticism of all Presidents past as well as the new President. I would imagine today would be a day to refrain from criticizing ex-President Bush or President Obama. I would consider it showing a little dignity and class, but that's just my opinion.

I'm excited to see what happens now. Even though I voted for the former Prisoner of War, the new President is my President too. Regarding today's speech, I was underwhelmed. His speech about race earlier this year and his victory speech were much better.

I am filled with optimism by the fact that the far left does not like Obama. see here for some pictorial examples http://zombietime.com/gaza_war_protest/

Stepford,
I feel bad for you, you are seething with so much bigotry and hatred for your fellow man that you seem incapable of experiencing joy or even mild amusement.

Beautiful speech. Inspiring, eloquent, scathing, and hopeful. Seeing the massive assembly of people was awe-inspiring. A new era. I'm thankful to be witnessing such an important and, finally, positive moment in history. It sure has been a bleak decade thus far.

Good riddance to the reptiles. Here's to hoping that warm blood can survive in Washington.

Absolutely. It was so beautiful...then out of nowhere he started dropping the funny. Awesome.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't taking joy in seeing those bastards from the Bush administration leave.

Yeah - if it helps, there's all sorts of joy around here.

I don’t think I’ve ever been entirely proud to be part of our democratic experiment, and for much of the last eight years I've spent a lot of time being outright embarrassed by it, but this is amazing, the speech, the benediction, the millions of people standing in freezing weather for nine hours to witness a thirty minute ceremony, today I am entirely proud of us as a people. Today it feels like we can begin to put the long dark days of our past to bed and actually move forward together.

It is finally morning in America.

USA USA USA!

I've had the parade streaming online in the backgroud for about 5 minutes and at no point has it not sounded like Jason Voorhies showed up at a Beatles concert.

I'm drinking at Surly right now. If y'all weren't a bunch of sissy nanny-staters, you'd be here buying me drinks.

I wouldn't buy you a drink, because as a Libertarian, I'm sure you believe that people should pay for their own drinks.
