First off, they're playing Saturday @ Andyman's.

Second off, from the band:

Quote:
Secondly, we also have a new album coming out this June. That's right, handsome! This will be album number four, self-titled - and the second that we have released for Sunken Treasure Records. It was engineered by Thee Jon Chinn and produced by Chinn and the four giant brains that make up Miranda Sound. The CD release show is set: Friday, June 20 at the Ravari Room with Bookmobile and Jon Chinn + 1803. Carve it in your arm (or at least grab your stylus and mark your friggin' PDA).

Finally, Saturday is ONE of OUR final Columbus shows (we have 3 or 4 left, total). 2008 is going to be the final summer of Miranda Sound. We're all still great friends and excited to release one more disc, but after almost ten years, we've amicably decided to hang it up in August.

We've scheduled our final two shows for Columbus (Aug 15) and Cincinnati (Aug 16). Between the time that the disc comes out and we play that final weekend, we are also hoping to hit Indianapolis, Dubuque, Cleveland, Jersey, Chicago and a few others. Some shows are already booked, some are in the works. SO, if you have a club or an idea, seriously email us: booking@mirandasound.com.

Since this is the end of the road, we've decided to make 'Western Reserve' (our previous Sunken Treasure release) available as a free MP3 download. Check mirandasound.com and sunkentreasure.org later this month for complete information.

We are still working out details, but we also plan to release some of the live stuff that we recorded at Little Brothers last spring. We'll also have new shirts and other goodies available at the release show (Reno artwork, etc). More info to come.

These CDs will be packaged similar to TAKE YOU AWAY by Megan Palmer.. Meaning hand screened, numbered, etc.

This is also the last CD that will be released by Sunken Treasure. In 2009, we're going vinyl/digital only.

I call dibs on starting a new band with Dan or Billy, or both, or whoever may be interested. I'll play bass or guitar or both, or whatever may be interesting. I am for real. My criteria:

a) Must enjoy making adventurous rock music

I knew this news was coming down the pike, but it still makes me sad and is tough to hear. You were one of the first local bands I got into when I moved to Columbus and that will always be special to me. Its been an amazing run Miranda Sound!! You should be very proud of the music you've made, the people you've touched and the contributions you've made to this music community!

I'll be looking forward to these last few opportunities to see ya'll play together. there better be lots o' sweat and headbutts or i'm flipping over your guitarsenal rack.

You knew about this and didn't warn me?! What am I going to do about the Miranda Sound tattoo on the small of my back?

Sofaking, unfortunately, Gerks is heading to Law School in the fall and I'm a fucking hack (these dudes have been carrying me for seven years).

Thanks for the niceys. Seriously.

We probably over-stayed our welcome, but we've had a fucking blast and I'm proud of 75% of our stuff. We hope to play some great regional shows after the disc is released on June 20 and play for our friends here in Cbus a few more times.

Proper Nouns tonight? Hell yes.

You guys are so nice. It's been amazing, and humbling.
And yes, law school in the fall, for sure. Somewhere...

I'm in for the Proper Nouns tonight for sure.
Columbus.
Bourbon Street.
Jezebel.
Jim Beam.
(Proper nouns.)

dear miranda sound:

1) i probably wouldn't have moved to columbus if you hadn't been here.
2) you never compromised and always raised the bar for yourselves and everyone around you.
3) i am proud & blessed to have been friends with you for damn near 10 years.

i will see you saturday.

p.s.: if anyone has 3 ADAT machines or a DAT deck, i have pre-Baby Inertia (sans gerken!) recordings that i did for a class project in college. those tapes are probably fucked by now, but i wouldn't mind trying to salvage them. sean's been trying to get me to hand over those "embarrassing" documents for a while now...

Miranda Sound is responsible for:

a.) me not going crazy spending my college years in Athens (instead of sitting around, not drinking, in my apartment, I would drive up and go to a show - and still not drink, but at least there was cool fucking music)
b.) introducing me to local music
c.) me breaking up with a incredibly bad choice of a boyfriend (indirectly responsible for this)
d.) me meeting Mr. Duffy
e.) many friendships
f.) me marrying Mr. Duffy (quite literally)

See: Gonzo's "All Columbus bands should break up NOW" thread about how The Shatters were going to rule this town thread :) (which was posted like 3 or 4 years ago)

(I can't seem to find it using the search function)

Ha. Gotcha man.

I remember Gonzo more for saying things like this about MS:
(These comments happen to be about a September '04 set at Andyman's... which you can relive TONIGHT.)

Quote:
Went to see Miranda Sound at the Treehouse on Friday. I haven't seen them since Comfest and I was curious to see what kind of show they'd be bringing to a tiny little place like the Treehouse. Maybe more of n unplugged approach?

Nope, they rocked, full tilt. And they were really, really great. These guys have gotten soooo good over the last couple years, they officailly get filed under "unstoppable."...

And these guys play like it's their last show on Earth. You just don't see that enough from other bands. To often I see bands slack through their live sets. Not Mirnada Sound.....they play their asses off. Hell, I was worn out just from watching them. These guys have consistently been amazing me when I see them live. I really can't wait for another record.

I just checked the Miranda Sound website today and got excited to see tour dates... and then was devastated to see the breakup news. Miranda Sound is one of my most cherished bands. I was turned onto them while attending college in Indianapolis, and saw them play a show with Loretta sometime around 2002 (a combination I'd go on to see multiple times). I bought Engaged in Labor shortly thereafter and became immediately hooked. I coincidentally just started re-listening to it about 2 weeks ago and was reminded how much I liked this band. I will miss them.

Miranda Sound:

-Got me to research buying microphonic pickups to be able to replicate Dan's "Cast Anchor Cast" vocal/guitar intro...
-Persuaded me to buy Nada Surf's "The Weight is a Gift" after Billy sang some of their lyrics over the outro to a Miranda Sound song @ a show in Indy in 2005 (?)
-Sent me a handwritten thank you note after I ordered Western Reserve online
-Allowed me to drunkenly gush to them numerous times how much I enjoyed their music & songwriting
-In turn, I got to witness Billy gush to Kevin Whelan when I had the privilege of attending a MS/The Wrens show in Columbus
-Wrote a lot of good songs and few great ones: Midas, Advice at Night, Alaska.

If you guys play Chicago, I will be there. Otherwise, I'll be making the trip to Lexington.

Mark

Also "Cast Anchor Cast"

I've always enjoyed the "Nothing's gonna wake me from my sleep/this is a job that I want to keep" outro.

Songs you jerks better play at the last show(s):

"My Surname's an Airplane"
"Virginia Creeper"
"Jefferson Proving Ground"
"Take It Where You Can Get It"

Songs you won't play but that I would love to hear:

"Lo (Comfort Like)"
"You Give Us All These Problems"
"This Is How Kids Lose Their Cool"

Well, I can say with 100 percent certainty that this band will be terribly missed. And whoever said it is exactly right, miranda sound set the bar very high for indierock in cbus. after all is said and done, i think msound exemplify the kind of dedication to quality and musicianship that we should demand from bigger bands who people pay big money to see and hear. If I know these guys at all, they will not stop making interesting music with integrity. personally, i would like to give these guys all of the kudos in the world for their accomplishments, and wish them all success in whatever their futures hold.

ps- if none of you take up matt wagner's offer you are dead to me.

actually, this could be the same review for their show this past weekend...x10.

And I believe The Shatters must have gotten the memo on MS calling it quits because The Shatters are getting back together now.

damn, Ned has the memory of an elephant
