Moved on to the stoney grooviness of Dead Meadow. Good night of music in Atomic Ned's world.

Slip was a far superior record to Manic Compression, in my opinion. Ned's On the other hand Atomic Dustbin was one of those "I can't believe I liked this for the half second that I did." records.

Slip IS a better CD than Manic Compression, I'll agree with you on that EQJ. Manic Compression was the first Quicksand CD I found when looking so that's why I played it. I think it's almost as good as Slip.

Funny thing about the Atomic Ned/Ned's Atomic Dustbin connection - or lack of. I got the "Atomic Ned" name out of a random name generator that somebody sent me (one where you put in your first and last name and it spits out a nickname). I didn't even make the connection until somebody pointed it out to me. I was never a big Ned's fan but picked up a few CDs AFTER starting the Atomic Ned column.

ned brewster, one of action swingers' many drummers, has also been referred to as "atomic" from time to time.
have been listening to this boot of quicksand b-sides and other crap for a few weeks now - was never a fan in the day (tho' dj red tornado swears by 'em) but i'm diggin' on it.

Nope. Walter is now doing something called The Walking Concerts which is a far, far cry from anything he's done in the past. It's more pop-oriented. Got to admit I'm not a big fan of it. I think one of the other Rival Schools guys is in Nightmare of You, one of those bands that all the NYC hipster blogger kids like because they sound like The Cure, The Killers, Duran Duran, etc.

Given the direction Walt's been going, I'm afraid to hear whatever his next project will be.

I thought Walking Concert was more interesting than Rival Schools, personally. I haven't heard the whole Walking Concert record though.

It's OK... very light. Damn shame he didn't write the best two songs on it.

Maybe I'm the last person in the world to have found this but I found a link to download the unreleased second Rival Schools CD last night (which I did).

http://cdscompletosdownload.blogspot.co ... hools.html

Sounds really good.

Oh how I wish Quicksand would do a reunion album/tour.

Sometimes I think Walt is just too damn particular and should just release stuff already.

Have you heard the World's Fastest Car?

I downloaded some WFC stuff back in the Napster days. I'll have to dig it back up, I haven't listened to it in YEARS.

No Quicksand reunion (we can still keep our fingers crossed) BUT ...

Quote:
Rival Schools - reunited, recording & touring (dates)
by Black Bubblegum

Walter Schriefels' short-lived post-Quicksand project, Rival Schools, have reunited to record some new tunes and lined up a seven date tour of the UK leading up to an appearance at the Hove Festival in Norway. Here's Walter from an interview posted @ RockSound:

"We have got this June tour and we still want to play some shows in the States. Especially if we are writing new songs it would be good to live in them a little onstage before we come to record anything. Whether the album is out first part of the year or spring we are not yet sure but we want to play out with new material to test it all out so expect a few more dates to be announced."

Awesome..... US dates are comin'!
