Im currently listening to this new female artist, Rose Rossi. She's kind of a blend between Gwen Stefani of old No Doubt and Tori Amos. You can check her out on myspace, my favorite song by her is "Fade"

I'm looking for kind of a blend between Glen Campbell and Tori Spelling. Any recommendations?

Wow, you just described how I am marketing my next album! Amazing!

Sebastian Bach - Angel Down

Wow. I'm surprised at how aggressive some of the songs are on this. Bach's got a couple of guys in his band that played on Rob Halford's solo stuff which may explain the heaviness. Axl guests on a couple of songs including a so-so remake of "Back in the Saddle" and "(Love is a) Bitchslap" which could be a GN'R song.

finally picked up magnolia electric co - soujourner box set over the weekend after not getting their last couple of discs because they all sounded the same (and not as good as the songs: ohia stuff IMO) and i'm plesantly surprised by it. The david lowery produced disc adds just a tiny bit of weirdness/hauntedness to the sound and the sun studios disc although only 4 songs is pretty good too. the disc with molina solo didn't hold my interest too much and the 4th disc (nashville i think) sounds the most like their other recent albums but it's got at least a few pretty good tracks on it. I haven't watched the dvd yet. all in all not a bad collection for $35 in a nice wooden box packaging.

I still don't have nothing people, but I want it! That eat skull 7" is good. Do you have the Palto Flats tape they put out? It's good stuff, too. I also recently downloaded a live radio show they did on KDVS, but haven't really listened to it yet.

Yeah, no, I don't have the actual desperate bicycles singles. I downloaded them last month. “Smokescreen/Handlebars” and "The Medium Was Tedium/Don't Back the Front".

I just saw HBJO in Milwaukee and the first four songs or so were Pink Reason covers. Pretty awesome.

NP: Daniel Johnston - The What of Whom, which I guess was inspired by the Half Japanese doc. But, now I wanna go rent The Devil and Daniel Johnston, which I still haven't seen...

I thought I was the one and only. Amazing how well those kids turned out. They went from Pearl Jam to something TOTALLY different. Their singer is very talented. Check out the Dissociatives. The kid grew up nicely.

i'd been wanting to check out okkervil river for a while, but hadn't till recently. "our life is not a movie or maybe" is my favorite song of the moment and inspired me to unearth my neglected keyboard today. i spent 30 minutes looking for its ac adapter because i just had to teach myself how to play that song. :)

Drug Rug - Friends from Boston. I bet there's a bunch of people here that would really dig this. Kind of a higher-fi Times New Viking playing CSNY or maybe Neutral Milk Hotel? I try not to subscribe to the this band plus this other band equals a third band. Low-ish fidelity, girl+boy love ballads, lots of pop, lots of 60's influence, good good good.

Viva Viva - More friends from Boston. It's The Lot Six plus Officer May plus pieces of Reports/Drug Rug/apparently the rhythm section for a bunch of good bands in Beantown. Lo-fi in other towns means significantly higher-fi than it means in other towns, I think.

Deerhoof's new one - I've been sitting them out for a while. This record is their best.

Black Eyed Snakes - I heard this a long time ago but just now bought it. Great.

The Bronx - Thank God for these guys. Heavy rock and roll. Friends with Slash? Friends with Gilby Clarke!? Still ... that's some awesome shit.

Killdozer - I know 'em, I love 'em. If you don't, you should.

Red Collar - I think they're from North Carolina. In the 1+1=2 method, other people have said they sound at times like Fugazi playing Bruce Springsteen? They have a couple of hits that knock my socks off. Like a rowdier, less bar-band/ACDC influenced Hold Steady.

I really want to hear what babyshambles sound like. A friend of mine recommended them to me and said that it's my kind of thing. I haven't searched on the web for any of their music because I have satellite internet (we can only download a very small amount before our internet is completely shut off for 24 hours). Can you describe what they sound like? I might buy some of their stuff, but I hate buying shit I've never heard.

Also, I'm avoiding them because of all the stupid media drama that their singer has been involved in. He seems like a wanker. I'll still give 'em a chance though. Thanks for any info!

Don't avoid him 'cause of the media. For goodness sakes, he's not a Britney, or even a Winehouse. I like babyshambles sound and lyrics and tone of drugs, clever darkness, etc. I'm mostly paying attention to the more acoustic/demo side of things, because it's winter, and right now, I like to Slow, Down in the winter.

There's about 1000 myspace pages with music up, and plenty of youtube also. And lots of links to free stuff, especially demos. Some are pretty bad recordings, but you can find gems if you look.
I'd start with nice day for a murder.
Their fans are ridiculously devoted to the band and other related, ie, Libertines.

He's not? Okay, so he writes his own songs - that makes him different. And he doesn't have any kids, so he's different from B.Spears. But his drug habits and the attention he gets because of the stuff he puts into his body is right on par with Britney and Amy Winehouse.
