All of the Old 3C releases (Log, Great Plains, etc.) are available on eMusic as well. In fact, some of the GP's stuff is only available online...

Not impressed with my initial searches:

out of looking for new cd's from:

The Mountain Goats
Primal Scream
The Sadies
The Thermals

and an old Lemonheads that I can't seem to find around here

I could only find TMG.

Hmmm. Maybe I am doing something wrong?

Primal Scream is major label, and it seems like there's a ton of albums from The Sadies..

so, it's possible that we've discussed this before, but what kind of money do local artists make from emusic downloads? And how does it compare to the profits from selling actual CDs? would I be acting in a less supportive way if I were to get my local tunes from the internet instead of the merch table?

for emusic, it's a weird mathematical formula that i dont quite understand, but bands do make less money than if you buy it from, say, iTunes or directly from a merch table.

but emusic is def. a great way to sample new bands you are unsure/dont know much about...

even if one factors in the cost of physical media manufacture, etc? huh.

Also, since this is my first paying month, does anyone know if your unused downloads roll over into the next month, or do you lose them?

EDIT: never mind, answered my own question:
Quote:
A: Our subscription program is simple. For each 30 day period you receive a fixed number of downloads for one low price. Every 30 days your account is refreshed with the appropriate number of downloads. Downloads do not rollover from one period to the next.

you lose 'em, they do not roll over.

dont get me wrong, buying it from anywhere is better than buying it from nowhere, but emusic is slightly less than iTunes or direct.

so it's a new month, and i still don't have any more downloads. Does it go from the date that you enrolled and not the beginning of the calendar month? if so, that kinda sucks, because it means I paid for a month I didn't know I had and so I didn't use the downloads.

If you download the new IE7 (which sucks) you cant download from emusic right now, but they still charge you. I tried to download The Saddies Rat Fink today. 26 SONGS. Their solution is turn off their download manager and download manually. 26 songs? Fuck that. Their was no warning anywhere. Here is the canned response.
Quote:
Hello,

Thank you for contacting eMusic Customer Support. Because of the
urgent nature of your issue, we are sending you this immediate reply. If
this does not resolve your issue, please reply to this email and we will
expedite your issue for resolution. If this e-mail resolves your issue,
there is no need to reply.

Some customers who are using IE 7 may experience issues when attempting
to download songs from our site.

Now that IE 7 has become an official release, we are in the process of
making updates to our site to ensure compatibility. This issue is a top
priority for us. In the meantime, there are two ways to use our
service:

Here is a list of free browsers you can download for your PC that work
well with our service:

- Mozilla - http://www.mozilla.org
- Netscape - http://www.netscape.com
- Opera - http://www.opera.com

You may wish to disable your eMusic Download Manager
in order to download directly from your browser. Once the eMusic
Download Manager is disabled you will not be able to download a full album
in one click.

To disable the eMusic Download Manager:

1. Log in to your eMusic account and click on the "Account"
link in the upper right of the eMusic homepage.
2. Under Download Options, click on the link entitled
"Change Download Manager".
3. Click the button to "Disable the eMusic Download Manager"
(if the button says "Enable eMusic Download Manager",
then you have already disabled it).

Now when you attempt to download a track, you should
be prompted to save the MP3 file directly from your
browser, just as you would when downloading any other
file on the Internet.

Please note that you can redownload your songs without losing credits.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope this helps resolve your
inquiry.

Regards,

eMusic Customer Support

Yeah, I want my downloads back.
