I like the Quorn ones the best.

Tofurkey sucks. I'm not much of a fan of fake meat. If I wanted to eat meat that badly, I would.

I agree for the most part - I'll eat veggie patties of various sorts, but I just like vegetables for their own sake, to be honest. No need to give soy some kind of identity complex. Every now and then I find a fake meat that is really good, like Shanghai Mama's faux ribs downtown in Cinci, and this Vietnamese place I went to in Tampa.

i have low iron, and i'd personally rather eat red meat instead of iron substitues. i've always been a carnivore. i just love the taste/texture. it might not make me hip, but it makes me healthy.

I don't think veganism makes anyone hip.
From most encounters I have found people hold vegans bairly
higher than ravers and icp fans, in terms of cool.

hell, most vegans i have meet.
i would never want to hang out with.

I don't think most people stop eating meat because it's hip. I stopped because I worked in a nice upscale, everything from scratch restaurant where I made sausages and cleaned a bunch of chickens everyday. Ever see what's in sausage or chicken stock? You'd stop eating it too.

I don't miss it at all: the grease, the disease, anything. Eat what you want though; that's my motto.

Caribou charges a dollar for adding soymilk, the fucks.

I'm sure Midwest Starbucks go through a shitload of soymilk, too.

Whoever said yeast isn't vegan (or that it's a fungus) is an idiot.

I think Mad Mex is just ok, not great, but they'll continue to get my money because they treat us right.

Wes, I already thought you were all right, but damn. Now you're my number one dude.

Some well known truths about vegans: many of them are new age freaks who don't know what the hell they're talking about, many of the rest base their choices on emotional reasons, such as "animals are cute" or some other nonsense rather than logic, many of them seem to have genuine emotional and psychological disorders.

So those of you knocking on vegans are right on for the most part. However, those of you saying you can't live without cheese or that vegan foods are bland, boring, or insufficient are idiots on par with the vegans listed above.

You would be surprised, I spoke with the DM for this area today, and she said they have two stores out of ten that sell alot of soy (Downtown Cincy and Clifton) and the rest are moderate to none.

Wake up. You are not a carnivore. All humans are omnivores. Go ahead and try living on nothing but meat. Your body will love you. Seriously, try it and report back to us.

If you want to find out how hip being a vegetarian is, here's an experiment you can try. Go to a website frequented by supposed hipsters, say a local music website, and then admit that you're a vegetarian. Watch how quickly the assholes come out to insult you. Yes, those hipsters love vegetarians.

Hey man, I didn't knock it without trying it. It just turned eating into a dreary chore rather than a simple everyday pleasure. (And I'll have to count myself among those who can't live without cheese.)

My problem with vegans is that they are almost always preachy. You want to eat a whole cow? I've got no problem with it. I couldn't care less what anyone else puts in their foodholes. I'm just particular about mine is all.

More on vegans (and vegetarians): many of them actually have eating disorders and are masking it by saying they are vegan.

I'm sick of all the bullshit. Tell someone you're vegan and this is what they associate you with.

Nope, I just associate it with judgment and hyper-sensativity.

Beer requires 4 ingredients. One of them is yeast. Yeast is living organisms that piss alchohol. You get drunk because of yeast pee.

Surly Girl does vegan?

I know High 5's got a few things.

Never heard of Cafe Brioso or Bodego. They do vegan?

Son Tong what? Is that in Columbus?

I've got my places (anyone who enjoys ethnic should be able to find plenty of pretty-much-vegan options in Columbus), but these are all new to me.

But you don't judge people? And you aren't sensitive? Jesus Christ, look at your posts on these boards. A little bit of self awareness, please.

I've heard the mad mex has some super uber double bonanza kind of marguerita specials too. and the staff is nice? and vegan-friendly? and in the campus skeet hole?

Oh, taco ninja is very vegan-friendly as well. Whole World if you and yer friend have an extra $20 for dinner. Udipi cafe up on Morse (I think) is a great friendly Indian place.

Gee, see proving my point, who said I was referring to you. You are so pissy, maybe this is due to a bland diet?

http://www.u-mad.net ...doggie.

look...no one was being preachy
if the humor of someone asking places to step their SOY GAME up
is lost on you..
maybe you are little to serious.

I was talking in a Dipset popping shit on Hot 97 manner in that first post.

I never told anyone to stop eating meat(nh).
Guzzle blood like a tampon. I give a fuck.

I just wanted to big up places that aren't taxing vegans in a silly ass manner. ie using slang in a vegan context.

naskdemeenie?!

-Son Tong Luck in carriage place on Bethal.
the lady is super vegan friendly and will willingly make most any dish vegan
real talk

-Udipi is the spot

-Whole world needs to step it side game up
nice to have an option. but i feel like i am get jerked everytime i go there.

-Bodega has vegan breads. the tempah sammich is usually good
good spot. but i wish they would step their side game up.
and stop charging me for soy milk. owners and staff are cool

-Blue nile

-Taco Ninja are very vegan friendly

-Beneavolence

-Surly girl can have a good vegan option here and there
but their side game isn't doing it for me.

I have to say MAD MEX after 11 pm is that piff.

The food is half-off.
And sub Soy sour cream, and soy cheese @ no extra cost.

with that said,

i just had the greatest fish fajita ever here in texas. i wish you could have all had a taste. (except wes, cuz he dont play that way, but there was some good vegan options)

Sounds like I should check-out Mad Mex. I've got a general rule: if the eatery doesn't seem to recognize vegetarians in some way, I don't eat there. It's not so much on principal. I just can't trust they grasp the concept enough to respect or accommodate it and I don't really wanna be a pain in the ass about it.

I went to Blue Nile once many years ago. I looked at the menu, decided to go with the a buffet and handed back the menu. Then I asked for my menu back so I could check to see what was vegetarian. They said that wasn't necessary - it was all vegetarian. An all you can eat Ethiopian/African vegetarian buffet at 8pm on a Friday - can't get much better than that in my world. The food was kinda like an earthier/thyme-ier indian food to my taste buds. I need to get back there.

The best pizza I've ever had was from Whole World about 5 years ago. Elroy and I discussed this. There's some chance he actually made said pizza.

Hmm, maybe we need a vegy luncheon/dinner.

I've got some lactose intolerance ramblings too, but thought they might be a bit off-topic, overkill, and, um ... rambling.

i really hate this topic, but to follow up wes and joel re: knowing wtf you're talking about... the waitress at mad mex, when my vegan friend ordered fajitas (with veg sc and cheese) said "ok, the grilling sauce isn't vegan, you want me to tell them to leave it off?"

which, poor atmosphere and godawful musical choices aside, is pretty rare in a restaurant around here
