is a 2003 documentary that looks at the gentrification of Old Town East/Near Eastside, particulary in the area of Bryden Road just southwest of Franklin Park Conservatory.

I enjoyed the movie and recommend it. I felt it was a bit scattered in its presentation, but it does a good job of tying it together by the end. Stays pretty unbiased as well. I thought they could have developed more of a back story and history of some of the people in the film. There are a lot of people shown in the film, but it focuses on the stories of 5-6 people.

While longtime residents struggle to survive, an influx of white, gay newcomers face their own set of issues. In 2003 it won a Peabody Award and an award at SXSW.

i really enjoyed it as well. i think that it'd have made a bigger splash if it HAD used more of a narrative, but then it wouldn't have been able to stay nearly as unbiased as the whole thing truly was. i was very pleased with the way they were able to show the nobility and hypocrisy of both groups, in action, belief and even conversation.

Poitras' new film The Oath looks amazing, btw. Haven't seen it yet.

Just watched this last week and really dug it. I'm actually living in Pittsburgh though so I don't really have a grasp on the reality of it. Is it somewhat representative of Olde Towne East and Columbus, or is it somewhat fabricated through editing?

The Oath was on pbs a few days ago..I like the way Poitras presents information. The subject-matter isn't something I'm very knowledgable about, but the doc is pretty compelling.
