Just wondering what everyone's experience is with particular brands etc...

I just got a new Samsung phone (Gravity 3) that can use up to a 16GB micro SD...

Purchased a couple of Kingston 8 GB microSDHC Class 4 Flash Memory Card SDC4/8GB for $15/per

Decent cards (brand)? what does the 'class' 2,4,6 really mean? Should I bump up to the 16GB cards for 24-30/per?

depends what you plan on doing with the phone. are you really gonna use it like a media player? then yeah, maybe you want the space for mP3s. I never use my phone like that, so 4GB is plenty for storing camera phone photos and movies. I went cheap and haven't had any issues. I would recommend getting one of those little adapter kits that allows you to stick the chip into a usb port, as that makes getting full-sized pictures onto your computer much more easy.

Yeah, I'm a dork and I use my phone as an mp3 player so the more room the better. I also have lots of out of town family and they send me piles of pictures through text and my 1gb card fills up super fast.
I know I want at least 8gb but was teetering on the edge of 16gb but with 16 that'll hold like 15k songs right?

The two things I'm most curious about are 1)the class ratings <2,4,6> wft does that actually mean? I read somewhere that it refers to speed but I'm not sure I understand how that translates 2)I've read about high failure rates on cheaper cards...does anyone know about that?

if you're using it for pictures and mp3s then the class doesn't matter. it is speed but for those applications any class will do.
