(sadly, though, i think i'm gonna wait a few days before starting season 3, because i just bought both 1 & 2 on blu-ray recently, and i wanna watch 'em all from the top again first. just because . . .

so, please, no spoliers without a big ol' "SPOILER ALERT" above it, just for me, OK? OK!)

This is NOT a spoiler:

I watched the season premiere online this weekend and it was just as awesome as last season's finale.

god, i'd really forgotten just how dreamy silas' first girlfriend was in the pilot episode, before they brought in deaf-megan . . .

kinda SPOILER-y:

Uh yeah... so last night's episode really sucked. I mean the twist at the end was cool and the bathroom scene with kevin nealon and celia's husband was hilarious but on the whole there was no edge to the humor. It just seemed like they were pandering to a lamer, dumber crowd (which makes sense considering the HUGE advertising campaign launched just before the premiere). I only hope that this first episode is just a ploy to reach a larger audience and Weeds will soon get back to the smart unpredictable satire of the first two seasons... oh and Californication was fucking ridiculous

Would it be possible to just have TJ not read this thread until he catches up? I promise not to talk about Weeds in the Heroes thread or something. Anyway, this is spoiler-y:

I watched it back to back with last season's finale and I didn't notice any sort of drop off or dumbing down, except maybe the banter between Nancy and the henchman U-Turn sent with her, but only because it seemed so unreasonable that they would be so casual under the circumstances. Of course, it IS a comedy.

You're right DeVille, it IS a comedy. But to me, the show's funniest moments have always been of the satirical variety, and not the screwball antics on display in the premiere. Maybe "dumbing down" was too harsh; screwball comedy when executed well is just as good, if not better, than highfalutin' satire. And come to think of it, there was some really well-done goofball humor in the first two seasons. But the banter between Andy and the bounty hunter, and the craptastic car scenes involving Nancy and U-Turn's wingman were overwrought and painfully unfunny. But whatever, just one guy's opinion...

I'll agree that the Andy vs. bounty hunter storyline was not funny. And I wouldn't worry, reports about this season seem to indicate there is much satire on the horizon, particularly directed at the Christian right.

As funny as that scene in the bathroom was, the rest of the episode could have been paint drying for all I care.

I LIKE Deaf-Megan. But she's not as hot as Ben's old girlfriend on Big Love. Or Sarah, for that matter :o

OK, so, about this being a comedy...

What happened to all the comedy?

Finally watched the last two eps on demand and I liked them way more than the premiere. Yeah they weren't laugh out loud hilarious, but at least they weren't trying desperately to be funny while failing miserably (like the premiere). There's some serious shit going down and so the lack of humor is appropriate, at least for now.

Oh yeah and the Thermals at the end of episode 2 kicked ass

Well, it was pretty obvious that *spoiler* had to die because that's the only way Momma Milf was gonna get out of that situation, but the means of death was pretty surprising to me.

So is she debt free or does *spoiler* own her now?

I was thinking the same thing.

What a weird way to kill a big character off.

It was really hot when the Olsen Twin was hitting that joint!!

I used to bartend with the guy that played the porn director in last night's episode. That guy is in everything.
