The Foo Fighters show was pretty good. I was a little concerned by the meathead contingent, apparently out in force for Chevelle, but they were pretty much confined to the lower pit...
The Jealous Sound opened the show -- decent hard rock-type stuff, which the audience seemed to appreciate (rare for an opening act, I've found.) Chevelle came next, and I spent the next forty minutes wishing they would go away. It was like Pantera light or something; my chest was hurting from the excessive bass by the end of their set. (Towards the end, the lead singer says "Wanna sing along?" and drops heavily into "The Threat", promptly drowning out everyone singing along. Whoops.)
The Foo Fighters played a decent, if not overly long set. It was about what you'd expect: opened with "All My Life", dropped in "Stacked Actors", "Learning to Fly" and "Monkey Wrench" here and there, played a couple of newer songs off of ONE BY ONE, encored with "Everlong." I wondered if Dave would drop out of superhardrockmode long enough to play "Next Year", but to no avail (and no real surprise, either.)
Interesting observation at Promowest for the evening: the audience seemed to be, on average, approximately forty years old. Also, the same two guys appeared to be crowd surfing down in the pit for the entire show. And if I understood him correctly, Grohl was apparently wandering around downtown Columbus by himself on Monday afternoon before the show, surprised that the city was empty.
