I solely define the scene as being the places and people outside my circles and my weekly routines so that I may get the warm fuzzy feeling of exclusion.

In the last 3-4 years, I've probably been there once. I think it's a terrible place for shows, even though Kyle did book some great stuff.

I'm pretty sure the effect on the Columbus Music Scene of Jawbreaker never attending a show at the Treehouse = zero.

Bands have played there 4-5 nights a week for the past several years & I don't recall anyone ever asking about you, dude. There's a bunch of great house venues out there that I'll likely never attend, but I'm not arrogant enough to assume that they are insignificant because I don't go there.

That's not quite what I meant.

I'm pretty sure Double Happiness + Ace of Cups more than make up for any "loss of shows" -- in addition to being much better/nicer venues.

Apparently, I not the only person that didn't like to spend money there.

Yeah, practically speaking, it's true that there are plenty of other venues, including new ones, that can make up for any loss of shows there. And hopefully one or some of them will enlist Kyle's talents to do that. But in the last few paragraphs I was more trying to communicate that if it doesn't reopen it would be an emotional blow to the scene. There's a lot of history there, and it's a unique venue that a lot of people (not everyone, obviously) hold near and dear.

Wait....you say that Double Happiness and Ace of Cups are much nicer venues. Agreed.

But you also hate Skullys which is basically the nicest and most expensively operated small club (not counting promowest shit) in the city. So, you like history, atmosphere, attitude etc. but only if it's a place that um, happens to agree with you personally. And clearly you disagree with everything about Skullys.

And, just to spit this out, I've been trying to get out of town bands that fall into my genre to play here for about a year now. You know there's like only two clubs here that will book a band like that? Treehouse and maybe Carabar. Bernies is always open usually but....it's Bernies.

You can't talk shit about Treehouse and at the same time praise clubs that have basically the same setup as Treehouse.

OK, I understand the emotional attachment. I'm pretty sure I have emotional attachments to tons of shit even my friends would think is stupid...

It seemed no one was this upset over Larry's, which is kinda weird.

I'm still upset over Larry's. It was my favorite bar, where I paid my first paying gig and met my girlfriend of five years. My friends and I curse the Sloppy Donkey every time we pass it. But Larry's was barely a music venue. They generally had about 5 or six shows a month. I think people are probably more up in arms because this is a bunch of musicians talking about a venue that had live music most nights.

I thought it read Menards which made me laugh because no band is that bad.

Yeah, Menards rules. This thread is stupid. Larry's sucked well before the doors finally closed. I'm outta here, PEACE!

Larry's totally sucked. The bathrooms were disgusting, the pool table had a bunch of pillars next to it which made it hard to play, the "stage" and "soundsystem" were terrible enough to require quotation marks, the service blew, the drink selection was mediocre, the booths were uncomfortable, the song "the man in me" ran on repeat, etc. It was a complete shithole. But man oh man if it wasn't my favorite shithole in the world.

I tried Menard's twice. Wanted to like it, but never got used it. I guess I'm a Lowe's guy. BTW, don't even try and enter through the exit. IT IS AN EXIT, NOT AN ENTRANCE. YOU WILL BE DENIED!!!!!!!
