As we do every year, all older Comfest threads locked (although I kept the libel thread open for posterity) and want to focus all conversations to this one thread. I'm not there this year, hope you all have fun. |

Fuck that, I'm headed to NY right now to drag your ass all the way to the pond and dunk you! I am amped for some comfest fun. I know I will see many fashion mistakes, and most likely I will be one myself. I have looking like an ass down to fine art. Too bad I am not playing this year. I could have worn an Army Of Larry t-shirt and some shorts! Biggest bummer of the year: Phantods are playing while I'm at work. |

Rushed the fuck out of my place to see Jenny Mae......I'm glad I did. What I saw has nothing to do with how I view her and what she did in the 90's. I have her album and that's all I need. Town Monster was actually good. Carnival-rock...yes. But decidedly less so today. "The Shine" and I think the song after it were fucking awesome. Went to Gazebo to see Lydia Loveless, arrived early and got to see some girl playing acoustic guitar by herself, very rudimentary, covering MGMT's "Kids." It was so awful and so heartfelt that I was totally confused on how I should feel at the given moment. Then I realized that most evil is really heartfelt. Aperture was ok. I love that band, but I love them more when the lights are off. Same with The Phantods. It's amazing how much you realize "rocking out" is very relative, and pretty stupid. When you see guys with overgrown beards and beer bellies "rocking out" in the unflattering light of day it's very, decidedly, non-magical. I mean, but I'm of the opinion: if you still hold on to enough to enough ego to be in a rock band, then hold on to enough ego to fucking take care of yourself and stay away from the fucking fried food and cheap beer. I'm looking forward to Saturday. Great bands most of the day, and I can't drink because I'm playing later on afterwards. Sunglasses on. Conversation off. |

I hadn't really thought about it recently until today, but last August I got married at the Goodale Park shelter house. Weird. |

Good time yesterday, performed, stuck around and watched Jenny Mae, ate. Walked around. Watched the Phantods. They sounded good. I expected them to sound harder? Back to off ramp, watched Paul Bearer (sp) introduce some heavy act and make fun of Jenny Mae and Flotation Walls (before they even ever hit the stage..) lots of anger..yawn..downer-a little disappointing. Ran in to people I hadn’t seen in a long time. Only parts of the day that I didn’t like where when someone got a hold of a microphone (These people were not in bands) and spoke as if they actually represented the crowd? Sit down and shut the f'up please. Poor form. Hitting the kids stuff here in a couple hours. new day. |

Day 1. Ran on schedule all day. I thought Jenny Mae was gracious and sweet. Her performance was wonderous and strange, and I love her for doing it. Red Specials' Travis is my hero. Came straight from a funeral and just had a baby and still made it to play. Paul Bearer is um *cough* kind of offensive, but well, yeah. Ben is a trooper. I think that seeing Nick Schuld in that ol'timey swim suit was worth the price of admission. SHIN TOWER MUSIC was amazing. Those kids never cease to impress. They worked really hard on that, and it was perfect. Tristan's little brother was a doll, and large number of female groupies! And last but not least, Billy Peake's volunteer crew is the awesomest, and thanks to all the volunteers! Love you. |

Loved Ex-whites. They scream heavenly Dischords. Caught some of Sons Of Gladys and was surprised to enjoy it. I laughed at Paul half the time. |

Mount Carmel slayed. Their drummer is my hero. He plays a free flowing style that I never have been able to achieve on that level, and he's almost young enough to be my son. I enjoyed Trains Across The Sea. Good stuff. Another great drummer in that band. This early ending shit is worthless though. I'm not sure it had any effect other than changing the times drunk idiots hit their stride of douchebaggery. I think the bands need to fucking cool it on all the covers too. Everyone was playing not just one cover, but many during their sets. It is trend I have seen get worse the past few years. |

Um... I don't think Phantods' sex appeal comes from the dudes... just sayin'... Had a good time volunteering at Off Ramp Friday. Town Monster and Flotation Walls were awesome. Saturday, Monolithic Cloud Parade was awesome. Then my band, Old Worlds played (full disclosure). I have to be honest... I really hated almost everything else that happened at the Off Ramp after that. Covers? Yeah, we could do with fewer of those -- especially if they're as off-key and amateurish as Historians doing The Postal Service. ComFest ain't for quality, that's for sure. Here's hoping that Mark Fisher can get Direct In off the ground. |
