Call it short attention span, my generation, or maybe I'm as shallow the Goodale pond. Whatever. The act of someone just playing their instrument is mostly a boring occasion for me. Most of my favorite bands are included in this sentiment. The more shit going behind and around them that takes focus off their persons (i.e. lights, darkness, shapes etc.) the more I'm able to focus on the music itself. Get it? Frank Black is a hell of a lot more interesting to listen to on a record than he is to watch live.

But....I really don't have any reason to explain myself to anyone other than Gretchen/The Phantods.

I feel inclined to throw in my two cents on this one. Personally, overweight guys with beards make me all twitterpated.

Generally, the idea of watching 4 dudes on stage playing instruments & singing is, by nature, boring. That's why they do it in bars. So people can get drunk. And hug on each other. And point their beer bottle at the guitarist. And sing all the words. And get punk-neck from dancing. And the next morning, go back to their stinking job.
