Muse is ok, but I did think it was funny that you used them as an example of an Indie band when they are on Warner Bros I believe, which is not an Indie label. As for their sound, I don't think I'd lump them in with "indie rock" that way either, but what do I know?

Hip-sterz like Muse, I thought. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm not very cool, or wired into the "scene". But really, my lyrics barely make any sense in the first place, so why does it even matter.

It matters to how the audience will receive it. If you want something to be funny because it doesn't make sense, it should be presented in that context instead of a "funny because it's true" way; parody should be an exaggeration of truth to the point of absurdity, not absurdity for its own sake.

It was the first band that came to mind, mostly because I have seen fights about whether or not Muse sucks. They have serious fans and serious haters. Personally, I don't care too much either way. It was literally a split-second decision. I wouldn't read too much into it. The lines about uncombed hair and tight jeans with muffin-top are much more important.

You just described everything which exists. Seriously. Every band, artist, science fair project, cake or ice cream flavor..... Even vagina has lovers and haters.

And there you have it. If you're going to make fun of someone, people are bound to get defensive (oddly enough, even if they don't consider themselves to be part of the group you're lampooning) over seemingly-minor details, which they will use to attack your credibility. If you're perceived as ignorant, the careless tone will seem disrespectful. Inattention to detail is the surest way to rack up a dozen pages of mockery, lectures, and debate that will overshadow anything good about what you're trying to present.
