comfest couldnt secure a permit so they are having the festival at espresso yourself and you have to do a showcase there before june or you are blacklisted from ever playing comfest ever

Fisher leaves Comfest: "Long live Comfest."
By Steph Greegor
Published: Friday, March 26, 2010 2:25 PM EDT
Mark Fisher, organizer of the Columbus summer festival Comfest, confirmed today he has officially retired from the 37-year event that came under fire last summer after 18-year-old Bryan Barbin stabbed himself while under the influence of drugs.

Comfest, the city’s popular annual local music/cultural festival and “Party with a Purpose,” has come under scrutiny for its open drug use policies even under the supervision of the Columbus Police Department and its special duty officers who have historically turned a blind eye to the illegal activity in Goodale Park. (See story here.)

Organizers and Comfest attendees have anticipated that there will be changes to the way Comfest is run this year following the Barbin incident and Fisher indicated as much in a weekly e-mail update about local live music events and what’s happening in his life.

The e-mail, dated March 25, had this to say: “I retired from Comfest. There were some ‘reasons’ like the fact Comfest decided to close down the festivities early each day, even closing some stages earlier than others. But there also seemed to be some ‘signs’ that this was the time for me to go. I lost my notebook where I made my notes for my band reviews, I got involved in a new music festival project and Comfest even demanded that I give up my license plates. There has been a lot of seismic activity around the world recently and I’m just feeling like the ground beneath my feet is quaking too, changing the world around me. I believe with the coming of Spring that the pendulum is swinging back in the right direction for our country and I’m hopping aboard for the ride. One of the downsides to leaving Comfest is that I will no longer be seeing all the new bands that apply to play. As a result, I’m not sure I will remain qualified to offer up my suggestions for weekend music listening. Not sure what I’m going to do about that. For now I will just have to go back to keeping my ear to the ground. So if you have any tips or suggestions, I’d love to hear them.”

Fisher signed the e-mail, “Don’t let the past remind us of what we are not now.”

Fisher declined to comment any further on his reasons for leaving the festival. When asked if he had any comments as to the future of Comfest, he simply replied: “Long live Comfest.”

The festival is set for June of this year, according to Fisher’s e-mail.

I heard that there's going to be no off-ramp stage this year.

eh, that's just what we've all been instructed to tell you so you won't start asking to play it every 7 minutes . . .

It is true that there was a chance that the offramp might not "be" this year, but that is not the case. Officially.

Even though there will be less bands, which sucks, I think this is going to be a very good year, particularly for the offramp, way many great bands this year. You can't always control your lot in life, but you can make the very most of it.

Regarding the longer set breaks. For the most part the offramp will go from 10 minute set changes to 15. There will be one longer set change a day (30 minutes), and we will just use those for bands that have a lot of set up to do. Bummer, but not the end of the world.

 The reason behind it is that the GPC want there to be some quiet time, so people can talk to each other, have more time to roam around, etc. Those 10 minutes breaks are really hard for the bands to do anyway, so maybe it is for the best? This costs the offramp six bands :wall:.

Comfest will close earlier this year.

 There are many who feel that this is a way to control growth of the festival, I think it will be a big freakin' mess. We'll see. I think it goes 10, 9 and 7 for the Offramp and the other stages. Jazz stays open an hour later.

I will make my plea, again. If you don't like the way things are going at Comfest INC. Please consider joining the General Committee.  You really can make an impact.

Not really supposed to answer in these threads, but honesty is the best policy. Rumors and conjecture get ugly, and I am sick of being told what I can and can't say when this has already been decided and there is no reason not to confirm/clarify shit that everybody has already heard anyway.

Creating a virtual comfest on facebook, sort of like Farmville, might be more fun and rewarding than actually playing the Solar Stage at noon on Sunday.

Comfest will have an offramp stage. I have a volunteer shift at the beer tent and as a stage hand. So i would assume that this means they are going to have music around.

And yes, July 10th 4th and High will be sick!
