Between Twitter, Columbus Underground and this post, I think the thread should be renamed: Liz Lessner's Comfest Cancelled Rumor?

Just being stupid by pretending to retweet. Another problem with twitter, other that what bair said, is the people who 'retweet' other peoples' stuff or use hashtags to make something a 'trend' and taking worthless info and multiplying the volume of that info. I follow a few bands, newsmakers, etc on Twitter and some of the stuff I get from them is worthwhile. Most of the stuff on Twitter though is just noise, like bair said.

Clearly looking to take over Twitter in terms of useless info though is the increasingly popular FourSquare, which informs you of the location from where the person is tweeting. So when you don't care where the person happens to be eating dinner, you can also not care to look at a map showing their location. Why this is popular, I have no idea.

Now let's hear some more inside baseball on the craziness of Comfest planning so that we can start more rumors.

You've just doubled my knowledge about Twitter. I had a vague notion of what retweeting was because of Facebook, but the #trend seemed a bit odd. The most use I've gotten out of it was earlier this week when one of the ISP's at work had an outage, and they communicated this by sending a Twitter message.
A TWITTER message.
A TWITTER MESSAGE.
In one of the updates:
The ISP literally wrote:
Engineers are actively working to get everyone up. There is no ETA at this time. We will tweet once there is.
:?

Anyhow, I'm working on a way to take the ComFest rumor genre in a new direction. I would like to see if I could get something into the mill that causes unreasonably high expectations.

what?
you mean like the fact that since obama is the super-secret-special-guest-speaker (apparently giving a speech about volunteerism in his new vision of america) at the 'fest this year the comfest committee has agreed to move it to the fairgrounds?

I heard that rumor got started only because somebody high-up in the comfest echelon failed to file all the appropriate paperwork on time and that the Tea Party stepped in and booked Goodale Park for the last weekend in June.

I'm just not quite there yet. I don't know why it is. Obviously, I get the appeal of broadcasting to the "world" just how "clever" my "thoughts" are, but something about Twitter feels superfluous. Like putting on skates to go from my house to the car, or eating appetizers before a meal.

Wow. Those are actually pretty good, but I'm talking about going in the complete opposite direction, like ComFest is extra free. Everyone gets 2 free tokens for beer and one new token for drugs. That sort of thing.

Here is more knowledge - investors put the value of Twitter at $1 Billion! They have hardly any revenue, but are valued at $1 Billion. All of these sites, Facebook, Twitter, etc are considered to be worth gobs of money because of the data they have, but they haven't found a way to capitalize on it with any sort of reliable revenue stream. Madness.

Too specific. Something more like "ComFest will start paying bands based upon their draw." People would go NUTS trying to speculate about that one.

Well I heard that the DMB is cancelling its June 22nd appearance at Huntington Park, tickets refunded at point of purchase, and is playing instead on Saturday, June 26. Venue and "ticketing" TBA.
