comfest is fun i agree.. and it displays some of the best columbus has to offer, but more and more it seems to also display some of the worst our town has to offer too. in attitude, size, and yea, it's governing body. this whole "we will make you or break you" shit is down right depressing. i volunteer year after year and i love the fest, but for bands, it's a maddening, hyper-political, chinese fire drill.

here's maybe an idea... we have what, 600 acts apply and 180 some that get in? how about weighing the averages? we have a whole stage for jazz, a whole stage for accoustic etc.. but how many acts are out there for these stages? are these stages booming with popularity? how about switching the stages up so you get multiple styles? you probably only get a handful of acts.. i mean, i don't know for sure, but i imagine there's only so many accoustic acts in town so you probably get the same folks involved every year.. but how about weighing the genre number of applicants with the amount of stage room?

I think it would be a hoot and a half if they made one of the stages an American Idol-esque "audition" stage for bands that didn't actually get in...the ones on the bubble if you will. And there'd be judges that can give you the hook before you finish the first song even. I just like the idea of bands being ridiculed in public.

i had another idea while me and stinky were watching some kids playing on the basketball court.
how about setting up a half pipe there on that court? and you could build a hard rock stage there to fill in the sound. make it a mini-skatopia or whatever. i think that would be pretty f'g cool.

A halfpipe would be good, but I can't imagine what kind of liability that would open Comfest up to. One bad wipeout or broken bone and you could possibly have a lawsuit on your hands.

watching people wipe out on the hill by the food stands was my guilty pleasure. Saw a number of people try to negotiate going up the hill with their newly purchased food and beer...only to wipe out and see the newly purchased food hit the mud, and them trying to salvage it. Even if it never rains at another comfest, they should soak that hill down.

I like these ideas.

What about combining them? Making a half-pipe right in front of the main stage, hose it down, and make people chug a beer while skating? And just have them sign a waiver - problem solved.

you know they have a helluva big liability just serving beer anyways. they could make it work.. sign waivers etc etc.
you don't have to make a gigantic ramp, just something that would be cool to skate on. you know people would totally be into that.

I hear that next year there will be a special Don B. Stage.

Every band that applies but does not get in will get a 3-5 min set to perform Batman w/ Don B.

Nothing but Batman and Don B. all day.

Shit, if they put in a halfpipe, I'd pay money to watch.
