comfest is fun i agree.. and it displays some of the best columbus has to offer, but more and more it seems to also display some of the worst our town has to offer too. in attitude, size, and yea, it's governing body. this whole "we will make you or break you" shit is down right depressing. i volunteer year after year and i love the fest, but for bands, it's a maddening, hyper-political, chinese fire drill.
here's maybe an idea... we have what, 600 acts apply and 180 some that get in? how about weighing the averages? we have a whole stage for jazz, a whole stage for accoustic etc.. but how many acts are out there for these stages? are these stages booming with popularity? how about switching the stages up so you get multiple styles? you probably only get a handful of acts.. i mean, i don't know for sure, but i imagine there's only so many accoustic acts in town so you probably get the same folks involved every year.. but how about weighing the genre number of applicants with the amount of stage room? just an idea. happy comfest to all!
