i was SO happy when the randys played as our tent is right near the gazebo...it was a nice break from the horrible cover bands and uber-funky bass lines....

Comfest smelled more like cigarettes than in years past.

The fish boat was the worst thing I digested all weekend.

It amazes me how rude people are at Comfest.

The salsa tent was my highlight.

I had more fun serving beer for people than I did watching any of the bands.

Actually, Christian Howes at the Solar tent was damn cool.

I don't have time to go through the Craigslist COMFEST MISSED CONNECTIONS, so if someone can do that and post highlights, you'd do us all a favor.

To Laura the adorable football player (Comfest Beer Tent)

Date: 2008-06-30, 6:30AM EDT

It's a shame we didn't meet again, because I could have thrown you a touchdown. If you read this and you wanna play catch sometime, I'd like that.

P. - the guy in the dashiki who is substantially shorter than you and not allowed to play volleyball

certainly missed more than I saw, which wasn't the original plan. But as with any Comfest, the best plan is NO plan - just wing it and move with the sun or wind...or rain.

I got there early on Friday and caught Woosley and 1.3. Then headed home to really prepare for the weekend. I got back later than I wanted to, stpped at the Short North and pounded a couple of shots and made over at 8pm. 8pm was the cluster-fuck in the Schedule, as I wanted to see Happy, 2 Cow and The Razers. I planned on catching all 3 and recording a bit of all of them, but Happy was getting on a roll so I stayed at the Gazebo the entire set. The 100 proof Smirnoff was going down fast. Smoked a joint while heading to the Bozo for the Floorwalkers. Started recording the Floorwalkers set when I decided they weren't really ready for the Main Stage, so we took some shrooms and continiued watching. And then the lunacy set in. Unfortunately, when you are carrying as much "fun stuff" as I was on this night, I have the patience of Kieth Moon and was doing everything in my arsenal all at once.

It was at the moment that I decided my little portable recorded look a lot more like an electric razor, so as people cut in front of me, I would rub it up the back of the neck and hair. They immediately clutched the back of their head, turn around and see me grinning with the "razor" in my hand and start bitching at me for trying to shave their head - all the while with the recorder on. Some were ready to kick my ass. I must have recorded 30 different people threatening to kill me. I'll try to get these posted at some point - I haven't even listened to everything yet. I know the conversation with our taxi driver is a riot, after I tried to shave his head too.

I know we ended up at the treehouse for a bit, but this was no place for us in this condition. Took a taxi to an after hours where more lunacy continued. Left there about 5 and then had a night cap at my attorney's houe that lasted until 8am.

I was so tired and hung over I for the rest of the fest and the mud made hard to get around I really didn't take in much for the rest of the weekend, even though I was there. Saturday night there wasn't anyone I really wanted to see so I opted for dry land at the Jazz stage and watched Tony Monaco kill.

Went to the Treehouse again on Saturday to catch 2 Cow since I missed their Comfest set. Got a great recording of the show. These kids just own it. Micah has star power in spades. Best thing I saw all weekend.

Fuck the mud, fuck fish boats.

Fried Cheese on a Stick? Fuck yeah - it's fried..and it's cheese. They're so good I just wanted to shove the sharp stick it came on right in my eye when I was done.

Wow, I just read what I wrote, and I don't think everything has worn off yet.

TIMS KILLED!

The kids in that band are apeshit crazy (joe Especially). When I put up the video of their new song you'll see. The crowd was way big for their set, glad to hear they sold lots of CDs. That first disc, Missent to Thailand is so effing good. I've been following them for close to two years, and they just keep getting better.

My Highlights:

-TIMS (obvs) Joe and Co are a great load of fun to see.

-Los Caminos- fucking melted face. Paul Goll is the best guitarist I've seen in a long long tim.

-Tin Armor- I really enjoyed these guys, despite the high hipster quotient. They were the only band I needed Ear Plugs for. Very fun and the guys were way sincere and kind. Plus, I got a sweet Tin Armor Grocery Tote :-D

-Paper Airplanes- Thanks for sending me that CD months ago. I thought the set was awesome.

Damnittttttttt! why was my login timed out and I lost my whole 17 page post?!

o,k, I'll sum it up like this:
I really enjoyed schlepping everyone's gear on Friday! you were all really cool and appreciative about it.
Firday:
1point3 (only Bozo i really caught)
Hotel War
Teeth of the Hydra
Slide Machine
Cheater Slicks (I think the frustration of almost not making it to the stage made this one even better)
Yes Wizard, all of these bands were "mysterious"
Friday quote of the day {TotH set} "no puking" btw, Sawing Through the ice sounded beef covered and amazing!

Saturday
showed up in time to huddle 12 people under an umbrella (Skot hates wet) and then 27 people in my car. Saw a debit card flowing down the ditch in Goodale.
Miranda Sound (-The End-}
Red Dahlia
333 (-The End-)
Muscle Puzzle
UnH2 (Bo looking annoyed and turning off the smoke machine {was Lutzkoos shit burning?} and kicking a pot off of his foot and back on his drum set)
Deadsea
El Jesus
greatest night of music I have ever been a part of. Thanks to everyone for leaving it on the stage!
many, many plastic cups of beer...fight the warm beer/comfest mug conspiracy!
how many people asked to smoke dope in my car? dude, it's ok just smoke in the park...those kops asked to work the fest just to get close to the smokkke.
Sunday
chicken stir fry
beeer
beer
giant, cheese covered pretzle
beer
first ever fish boat...covered in hot sauce shared by Nic and I>>>>tasty!
beer
funnel cake
beer
--last beer[ran out of Columbus Pale :( --
vinegar covered fries
Paper Airplane
Los Camino's- see this band...see this band...don't be stupid, see this band! John of Lindsay I caught you cheesing big during one particularly badass "chickin' pickin'" solo by Paul.
the Lindsay ("Lindsay's...ha!)
Pirate

I bought some of your records, now buy me a beer!

I have not done a lick of work today

edit: I gave in and got a mug with my extra tokens

edit part 2: Bastard s s, thanks!

OMG. There was this incredibly totally beautiful red-haired girl. I have no idea what her name was, and of course I couldn't manage to say hi/start a conversation/whatever you're supposed to do in that situation, apparently I'm retarded.

i was definitely "cheesing" during Paul's Los Caminos solos. i've known that dude for years but never really heard him play serious guitar until yesterday. he is a genius.

first time seeing TJSA and they did not disappoint. best set of comfest.
actually, tied with Hugs+Kisses for best set of comfest.

Now that the hippy stink is starting to dissipate, it's time to confess your dirty little comfest secrets and guilty pleasures.

1. I actually really enjoyed comfest again this year, but made sure to limit my exposure and only went at non-crowded times.

2. I talked thru every single set that I saw

3. I would rather work stage crew than perform at comfest

4. As much as I love the phrase "Fish Boat", being from the Lake Erie region I find them disgusting

1. I had dirty, muddy hippie feet in sandals because my only other pair of shoes I brought up got soaked.

2. going behind the scenes/tents/trucks is far easier

3. Fish boats look disgusting: never had one

4. I missed a lot of bands but had a great time, except Banjo never called me back. Sadness ensued.

5. One of my favorite hats got messed up in the rain, but I don't care.

6. I don't mind getting wet (I've never owned an umbrella and don't care) but to the fuckers who think the "drive by splashing" is funny, there's a reason I don't conceal carry. I would not shoot you, just your tires then kick your ass the old fashioned way so you could experience the nasty street water for yourself.

Good to see those I did see, sorry to have missed others. Lots of eye candy, especially if you include the crazy people, such as Mr. Stallone.

Comfest rules, although having missed it for a couple/few years, it struck me how much larger it's gotten, and not in a good way sometimes. TJ, sorry I missed you when the rain hit - I was totally holding the dank for you and Jay. next time perhaps.

our eyes met over our fixed gears at comfest, each of us sharing a secret smile over knowing that we'd be zooming past all the cars chugging along high street that night.

you looked adorable, with your subtly androgynous face and long shaggy hair. your man-pris were at the perfect length between shorts and pants, tightly moulded to your cigarette-thin legs.

i was standing off to the side, wearing woody allen raybans and skinny jeans that tapered down into a pair of maryjane flats. i dropped my book (the latest by palahniuk, genius i say) right by your feet but unfortunately neither of us had enough elasticity in our trousers to succesfully re-obtain the book.

i'm glad we shared that moment of absurdity together. i'll be waiting tomorrow with a pack of pabst and a box of lucky strikes, headlights blazing, waiting for you.

I went. I worked during the week, didn't mind getting soaked during the day Saturday and I had no gigs Friday and Saturday nights to worry about. I was in of town on Sunday so I went. Not my first time.

My first frustration was parking, so I took a taxi. There was a total lack of signs because signs would not help or make organized traffic. I jay walked in front of moving cars (only been taxi'ing for 1 year and walked right out in front of many moving cars), it was the only way to cross the street.

Essentially, people were enjoying themselves.

I made his way to Comfest, met up with friends, heard some awesome amateurish crap but never really made my way to the jazz stage to listen to Pete Mills and Tony Monaco kick all kinds of ass. Ultimately I had a good time. Saw many boobs. Smoked dope. Drank alot. Ignored the obnoxious drunks and stoners, after I partied with them. Had a good time and didnt tell my dad what I did.

Great G. Worms set, happy to start my weekend with them. Brainbow was sweet, 1st time finally, and the Lindsay of course kicked some ass, can we get another album or something? A world tour?

it was saturday night at comfest by the food we talked about gyro's. you were looking for one and you had painted breasts that i couldn't stop staring at but i waas hoping you didn't notice. I just wish i had said something smarter than "no it's a steak sandwich". you have gorgeous eyes and a great body that i could see most of through the paint on your breasts. how could i let a moment like that get away. You might have had a boyfriend i don't know and don't care i just wish i could have that moment back. I had on the Abercrombie shirt (i'm straight) and probably looked like a dork eating my steak sandwich, but i'm a really fun guy and i don't usually eat steak sandwiches ( i was hungry and the line was short). If you do have a boyfriend it's ok i have a wife and i'm willing to work around these minor complications. Please contact me and at least let me know your name.
