Because it isn't my place to do so. If Hayseed would like to share it, it is fine with me.

You're on the committee that decides who plays Comfest, and it's not your place to speak publicly about it?

It has to do with his application. That is his business.

Hayseed:

When can we see you play a show? I checked your website and couldn't find any shows that I've missed or any upcoming. I couldn't even find a tourdate page on your website. I'm really excited to see your set since you have let many know how shitty they were when you saw them play. Now I've seen Barry Hensley play many times. That dude is badass and a super nice guy. Seen Jeff play a few times. He's a damn fine guitar player.

Please...PLEASE keep us notified of your shows or when you add a tourdate/show page to your website?

No. Not at all, but if your band is on the bubble, it would give you an edge over another band on the bubble.

And not to sound preachy but comfest is actually a Community Festival. Community in the largest sense of the world. It is really not just a music festival, people tend to forget that, including me sometimes.

wait. let's be clear about what we mean by politics. Because i'm pretty sure it was stated in the last thread that Michelle Shocker and Black 47 were selected precisely because of their politics. same with Biafra, etc. So clearly there is something besides musical merit that goes into these decisions. whether it's your stance on teh war or your willingness to schlep gear, it's part of the equation. depends on what you want to call 'politics'.

Lotta faith in the local scene, eh?

seriously...this is funny.

hayseed, this is a festival that is not worth getting pissed off about. (i mean that in a nicer way than it sounds.) it's a free festival that expects the vast majority of it's musician participants to play for free. most of the people who see you play there probably won't see you play again. also, playing comfest isn't going to result in a platinum selling career.

the best description of the festival that i ever heard was: this is not the best bands in columbus festival.

it's really just a group of guys that have been around columbus forever that put on a party. and in recent years the entertainment committee has grown exponentially to make the process even more convoluted. nepotism, crony-ism, favoritism, "politics" they're all there. but so what. that's the music business.

just go and have fun. it's easy to have fun at comfest. if you decide that you want to volunteer, i'm working the main stage at noon on sunday.

p.s.

that email thing sounds like it was complete shit.

Holy smokes.

nope. stage will be blown up by 1230pm. it's not the first time we'll be bringing a fire extinguisher. I'm sure TJSA will get by without a stage. They don't need that shit.

This is not to imply that we will rock so hard that the stage will blow up. I'm just excited about finally getting to display skills I learned at ELF.

Kudos to the Comfest Committee- that's a bad-ass lineup. May have to take some Kudzoo so I don't miss it.

1)Maybe they didn't think you are as good as you think you are.
2)I do recognize after reading it, that the email in question is a bit "off".
3)You general attitude towards volunteering equating to "pickin up their garbage" smacks a a MASSIVE sense of entitlement. Comfest stands for COMMUNITY FESTIVAL. Volunteering is good any way you slice it (even if you are bitter that you didn't get picked to play).

Go book a local show, you'll probably get paid a little...Play Comfest and you will not make a dime.

for the record I listened to the music on the "hayseed" site and if that is you singing you seem to have a nice voice so none of this is pointed at the talent level or quality of your music it's pointed at your attitued.

I can't speak to any of the other Bands, but This Is My Suitcase is a fucking Blast! Piano/Guitar/Pop. Joe, the lead singer is a bundle of energy. I'm honestly surprised these guys don't have a deal yet, but I'm sure it's just around the corner. Very radio friendly, very fun. I can't wait to see them again.

Yeah, right.

Last year was my first time at ComFest. I'd just gotten to town. I saw some great music but I also saw a LOT of crap. They think I can't do better than that but they'll let me pick up their garbage? Really uncool.

Hayseed, I understand you being upset at the content of the letter. It does say, on the last line, that you can ask questions about the process at the happy hour if you really care.

Your attitude about how great you are and how so many other local bands suck is surprising coming from such a professional as yourself. There are only so many slots to fill. There are hundreds and hundreds of bands that apply each year. How, pray tell, do you know that you are better than all of those bands?

Maybe once they post the schedule, you can go down the list of local bands that got a slot and enlighten us as to which bands are worse than you, as good as you, and better than you.

Have you even played any shows in our town this year?

I think it would save everyone a great deal of time and energy if someone would just post a link to last years Comfest bitch thread...or the one from the year before, that was a really good one.

Wow, easy there fiercelime.

Anyway, I know the kids in TIMS went out to LA to record some tracks with a professional producer a few months back (after Joe finished touring with Limbeck) who was going to shop them around. While I know that it's possible to self-release, I imagine there are plenty of bands out there that would be more than happy to have some help.
