well i haven't bought regular milk in years.
but i know soymilk is dumb cheap and doesn't go bad as quickly.
and it certainly doesn't cost 35 to 50 cents more for like 2 ounces.
its not like any of these spots use the soy 1/2 and 1/2.
they use bland soymilk.

Unless, like me, you purchase organic milk, soy milk is much more expensive than cow milk.

Well, let's think about this for a second. A restaurant is obviously going to charge you more for you food that it cost them to buy the ingredients. They've got things to pay for. The building, the utilities, the employees, so obviously there's going to be a markup on raw ingredients to cover that. Also, they're probably going to have to get their soymilk from a specialty supplier. And that specialty supplier will probably be more expensive than the regular dairy supplier will be. In addition, although the soymilk may not go bad as quickly, it's going to be far less in demand than regular milk, and will probably go bad at rates comparable to regular milk when you consider how much longer on open container of it will remain in the restaurant. So, you can call it gouging, but I imagine any responsible business owner would call it "good business." If you want to pay for what the ingredients cost and nothing more, eat at home. (And don't use water, gas, or electricity in preparing or storing your food, because that's going to run your cost up.) Plus, if you asked for soymilk anywhere but some sort of hippie-run operation five or ten years ago, you probably wouldn't have gotten much more than a blank stare.

Man, vegans are whiny. And I say that as someone who hasn't eaten meat in about 20 years.

And I understand that a business is gonna make me pay extra for something if they think they can.
I just think its suspect.

Well, Cafe Brioso doesn't charge extra for soymilk.
Neither does Northstar.
So it can't be that huge of a bullet to bite.
Mad Mex doesn't charge extra for soy cheese or tofu sour cream.

That was the point of my thread.
These places are vegan friendlier because they are trying to see how far they can get over on me.

I recently overheard one of those hippie/plug-ear types trying to explain how yeast wasn't "vegan". Perhaps someone could correct me, but I've always thought it was (scientifically) classified a "plant".

they tax me on something that i don't think should be extra.

the point of this post was commending the resteraunts that don't tax me on this.

The point is, you're paying for it one way or another. If they don't flat out charge you extra, you can be sure that the cost is being absorbed by a big markup on something else you're buying.
