Greetings all-
Summer is here, and I'm pleased to announce the first Cafe Le Spritz show of 2009.
For those unfamiliar, Cafe Le Spritz is a series of backyard shows featuring progressive jazz and improvised music, held at 594 East Rich St, in the historic Town-Franklin district on the east side of downtown Columbus. The first show will be an after-work affair with complementary pizza and spritz-y beverages.
To kick things off this year, on Wednesday, June 24th we have in from Chicago-
Josh Berman's Old Idea
www.myspace.com/joshbermanchicago Josh Berman is a cornet/trumpet player. With Josh in Old Idea are tenor saxophonist KEEFE JACKSON, bassist ANTON HATWICH, vibraphonist JASON ADASIEWICZ, and drummer NORI TANAKA.
It's a privilege to host this group as this will be their first out-of-town date while promoting their debut recording on the storied Delmark label of Chicago.
http://www.delmark.com/Here is what AllAboutJazz had to say of the new recording:
"Like Adasiewicz, Berman re-interprets the asymmetrical melodies, fractured rhythms and striking harmonies of the innovative mid-1960s Blue Note recordings of Eric Dolphy, Andrew Hill, Jackie McLean, and Grachan Moncur for a modern age."
- BAT CLOUD, a duo featuring local improv intrepids Ryan Jewell- percussion, and Owen Kelley- guitar, will open.
Admission is $5-10 sliding scale. Since this is a 5-piece band, please donate with regard to that if you are able.
Rain policy: if it should rain, we MAY have a back-up venue (house show). I will include this information in the reminder notice on the day of show.
