Greetings everyone and Happy New Year-
Next Wednesday, January 14th, brings the third installment of our Outposted creative music fests, this one featuring the singular percussionist and improvising musician, TATSUYA NAKATANI. The fun, freewheeling percussion group The Rhythm Raptors, will open.
This show is previewed in Cols. Alive, page 66.
Doors open at 8, and the show will get under way between 8:30 and 9. Show takes place at our new regular home-- The Columbus Dance Theater. 592 E. Main St. (Parking is on Lester and in a lot behind the building) Admission is $5-10 sliding scale.
- Tatsuya (web site) has been a special guest several times now, and this is a reprise of his solo tour last heard at Milo two years ago. As with the previous show, Tatsuya will first play a solo set. His solo sets, which filter "Eastern" sounds through the language of modern improvised music, are not like anything you have ever heard and can put a spell on even the most jaded listener. He wanted me to tell everyone as well that he will be bringing along two very large GONGS this time! See his website for a better indication of what "large" means.
After his solo set Tatsuya will then play an extended set with local guests, with each different group playing for about 15 minutes. The following combinations of musicians will play with Tatsuya:
L.A. Jenkins (guitar)- Tatsuya duo Ryan Jewell (percussion)- Tatsuya duo Hasan Razzaq (saxophone) / Ryan Jewell / Tatsuya Preston Porter (violin) / Bryan Stewart (bass) / Owen Kelley (guitar) with Tatsuya AND.....we'll also have a percussion extravaganza with Tatsuya, Ryan, and The Rhythm Raptors!
All in all this should be a really fun, unique evening of music and we hope you can be there.
Please support creative, original music in Columbus!
