Anyone check out the new Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) release of the long lost SMiLE sessions?

It's out there. Completely tripped-out weird and beautiful all at the same time. You would think that within the 37 year time span that the tapes were never finished, that someone would have done something like this already, but it's completely original. Amazing.
You can hear the roots of where bands like the Flaming Lips got some of their influence. ("Wonderful" could easily fall onto the same disc as anything from their Yoshimi disc.)

This music isn't even rock, it's symphonic music without a symphony. Definitely not for everybody, but if you're into music as an art form, then Brian Wilson has taken pop music to it's furthest boundaries with this one.

Chip, I'd love to write a review for Swizzle-Stick if you'd like.

Yeah i'm digging this too, completely left field music unlike anything else that's walked the earth. I did have to re-check the liner notes to see if there were any Beach Boys hiding somewhere in the mix, but nope its all new, and its great.

I don't know if I have the words to express how stunned I was by this album. It's all kinds of wonderful.

Brian Wilson has always been one of the great gods of music for me. I was raised on Pet Sounds, and had always been told that SMiLE! would have really upped the ante for the Fab Four...had it ever been completed.
Well, just when you wouldn't have expected it, Brian performs SMiLE! live(!!!) and then proceeds to record it finally for posterity! I have a bootleg of the Feb. 22nd performance at the RFH, and just got a copy of the studio recording. I am utterly blown away!
This album very well could have changed the direction of rock n' roll. It was years ahead of it's time in '67, and is still in many ways ahead of the current pace of music.
This is Wilson's masterpiece. After the third listen, I couldn't get it out of my head for about a week (and it still pops up occasionally). There are levels of mixing complexity represented here that just make me drool.
What more can I say?
I love it!

Is anyone going to see Van Dyke Parks?

In Fort Worth, Texas there is a drug clinic which takes people off the streets and helps them get over bad LSD trips. They don't use any traditional medical treatment whatsoever. All they do is play the patient our Smiley Smile album and apparently this acts as a soothing remedy which relaxes them and helps them to recover completely from their trip. - Carl Wilson, (1970)
