On March 22nd, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and NYC designer, Chris Habib, launched Protest Records. The site statement reads:
http://WWW.PROTEST-RECORDS.COM
exists for musicians, poets and artists
to express LOVE + LIBERTY
in the face of greed, sexism, racism, hate-crime and war
It implores us to “FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT,” and emphasizes that all songs and designs it offers are free to share, but NOT to sell.
Currently available on the site are songs by Steven Taylor, Anne Waldman, Stephan Smith, Cat Power, Eugene Chadbourne, Sharon Cheslow, and the Beastie Boys.
Stencil designs, by Chris Habib, include “Fuck the Flag,” “Give Up War for Lent,” and my personal favorite, “Bush ‘N’ Bones.”
