Other bands like Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes and John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band created a lot of proactive interference when I heard Arcade Fire and I couldn't take it seriously. I can't believe that many art students got together and created something that boring. The band sounds exactly like the aforementioned East Coast bands for a younger, newer generation and those bands didn't excite me all that much in the first place (although Southside Johnny had a few killer records in his day). It's like finding an underwhelming unreleased stash of songs by this guy you never heard of who was a lot like Bruce Springsteen and realizing why it was never released but at the same time seems to have some promise or authenticity. I bet they would have been pretty inspiring 35 years ago.
ditto.
i don't get what the kids are all excited about. i seriously need a red bull to get through them. i could dig it if the songs were catchy and got my toe tapping, but my toe's never budged.
