Springsteen Ups NJ Stadium Ante

The addition of Aug. 28 and 30 concerts at New Jersey's Giants Stadium will bring Bruce Springsteen's slate of 2003 shows at the venue to nine. As previously reported, Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform seven shows at the stadium in July.

Tickets for the newly added concerts will go on sale Saturday (March 8) at 9 a.m. ET via Ticketmaster. Though nearly sold-out, at deadline, a handful of tickets to each of the July dates were still available.

Nine shows by one artist at Giants Stadium will break a venue record that Springsteen already holds: the Boss previously performed six concerts there in 1985. He has also performed a record 44 concerts at nearby Continental Airlines Arena (formerly the Brendan Byrne Arena), which, along with the stadium and a horseracing track, form the Meadowlands Sports Complex

The third show of Springsteen's 2003 touring schedule with the band came last night in Jacksonville, Fla. After four more U.S. shows, the tour will continue on to Australia and New Zealand, Canada, and Europe before returning for summer stateside concerts.

Last week, Springsteen earned three Grammy Awards: best rock album for his latest Columbia set, "The Rising," and best rock song and male rock vocal performance awards for the title track, which he performed during the event with the E Street Band. Springsteen and the band's Steven Van Zandt also joined Elvis Costello, Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, No Doubt's Tony Kanal, and Attractions/Imposters drummer Pete Thomas in a tribute to late Clash lead singer Joe Strummer.

I'd already seen this, and despite spending four fruitless hours on the ticketmaster website when the MSG tickets went onsale in 2000, I think I'm going to log on this weekend, and see if I can get tickets to these shows.

Plus, there's a possibility they might sneak another couple of shows out when the others start selling :)
