Alice In Chains- Black Gives Way To Blue

This one came with more baggage than an album should be able to overcome, but somehow they passed the test. I do miss Layne, but I missed AIC as a whole much more. I don't give a shit about the whole "Is it AIC without Layne?" question. This is a fucking great rock record. I think all the songs are strong, Duvall fits right in without trying to be a clone. Quite frankly, I think this album blows away their last full-length with Layne.

Mastodon- Crack The Skye

I don't even know what to say about this album. It blows me away. I'm so glad this band exists, and that they made this album.

Some of my favorite albums this year...

Mew - No More Stories...etc.etc. (probably my favorite album of the year)
Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest (how can you not like this?)
The Horrors - Primary Colors (this album is fucking awesome. Not the same band as before)
Yeah Yeah Yeah's - It's Blitz (of courssssse)
Maps - Turning the Mind (this stuff gives me chills)
Asobi Seksu - Rewolf (reminds me of an old fav of mine, Azure Ray. so pretty)
The Drums - Summertime! EP (like if goth kids made an album about being cali surfers. love it.)
Wavves - Wavvves (yeaa wanna have some more dunk convos about this? anyone? didnt think so)
The Warlocks - The Mirror Explodes (space ouuuuttt)
Silversun Pickups - Swoon (yep)
The Big Pink - A Brief History of Love (we are dominoooes!)

After finally spending proper time with them to give them their due, I'd like to add these two to my list:

Slayer - World Painted Blood
Despite the uneven production, this album fucking smokes anything they have done since "Seasons In The Abyss" in my opinion. High energy songs, some nice twists and turns (which is nice for a change), and the musicianship is top notch. Dave Lombardo is the master of metal drumming, fuck all those assholes jerking off with blastbeats all the time. Dave is the man.

Them Crooked Vultures

All I am going to say is that this makes up for how lame QOTSA have been for the past two albums, BIG TIME. If playing with Dave and John is what Josh needs to get him in fighting shape again, then fuck the stand-ins he has been playing with. Just do this Josh!
