what do mastodon superfans think of this

i think its pretty rad

Im not a "super fan" but I might become one now since this album came out. I have there last two albums and enjoyed them very much. How ever, this album hasn't come out of my c.d. player all week.

I love what I have heard so far. I need to see these guys live.

Very personal record, based on an interview I read. The drummer's sister, Skye, committed suicide when she was 14, and he was 13. The guitarist/singer got into a fight in 2007 with the bassist from System of a Down and another guy and almost died. Both events played a big part in this record.

Hope they make a trip through Columbus. They'll be in Cleveland in May, so maybe Columbus later in the year.

I picked it up last week and I've spun it a few times. I like the vocal production. It's like they heard the last dead sea record we did. I think I know why you like it-it's definatley a "deftonsey or toolish" side of Mastodon. It has some killer riffs and noodley stuff that we all dig. Not a straight up head bobber tho. I hope they come back to the Newport again. My fav tune so far is track 4, super long awesomeness. Smoke weed son! But still, IMHO, nothing has topped "Leviathan". But I do appriciate the fact that Mastodon has not been a one-trick pony, and has strived to do something a little different on each new album.

this album is so good

The last two were fun token metal albums for me to enjoy but I hate this

I haven't heard it yet, but plan on buying it this week. I need some new music anyhow.
