oh no..

i was ready, set to see odetta last wed in long island..found out a couple hours before the show that she cancelled due to illness..

this is a bummer..first makeba passes, now odetta is seriously ill..i'm crying.

i really hope she makes it to obama'a inauguration..she is something very special.

what a bummer..

i had a dream last nite of a mysterious person giving copies of rare folk records in a undercover blackmarket kind of shady deal..all of them were rusty and sharp around the edges, like they were made of steel discs that had been out in the weather for countless days/seasons..they played fine but the sharpness of the edges caused a feeling of secret weaponness..just showing them around could scare people off.

it turns out that the Folk Song and Minstrelsy/4 record box i got last week for 99 cents has 2 full sides of Odetta..we were listening to it last nite right before bed..i don't know yet if some of these recordings were special to the boxset or not but there are versions of songs i haven't heard elsewhere, some live, some studio, but, her body of work is large, so, whatever..
