I wandered down to Used Kids Saturday with my gear in search of some music. I caught the end of the Guinea Worms set and put up a clip of their last track. It was my first time seeing the stage in the store and I found a great place to mount the camera.

Next up was Time and Temperature and Val sounded great(clip below).

About 15 minutes after her set I notice a buzz starts to take over the room. Heads are turning, Zach hands me a beer and and the whispers begin.

I turned to my left and Rory tells me the next guy up is named Raven. He says that Raven released an album in the 70s and if you can find an original copy it's worth 1K. I hear someone else say "I can't believe he's here."

I turned to my right and Nick Schuld on starts in with about 3 paragraphs of Ravens rise to stardom and the night that brought it all down. The day Raven's first single "Deer Blood" hit number 8 on the charts and the Southern Comfort tour of 76. The rooftop performance in Coshocton when the National Guard was called in. The night Raven puched Fritz the Night Owl in the at the Clock. Nick also pointed out that Raven didn't use standard tuning but chose to tune his strings in alphabetical order ABCDEF. That's rock. Sometimes when Nick talks so fast that I can only pick out every 3rd word so some of the stories may need clarification. The track here is Ravens final song. He switches to an accoustic and finishes the set with "Asshole."

Any actual Raven information would be appreciated.

The Raven set was the best set I have seen in a long, long time.

ZZ top meets Jandek in the best possible way.

I dig the "grindhouse" effect on the Guinea Worms vid. Nice job, Sperry! I'm sad I missed the shindig (weird trivia: I was traveling to Indiana for a wedding with Will Foster's brother, Allan. Yes, the two of us are married now. It's an open marriage, though ... ladies).
