First listen - OMG this is boring I hate this album

Fourth listen - There are some pretty awesome riffs on this album

Ninth listen - OMFG I love this album

I must have had a pretty similar experience, because at first I was just ok with it. Now I'm totally addicted. I've heard about a 10 tens this week, and pretty much every-time I decide another song is my favorite. It's a much more satisfying album than their last, and it has the variety that made Songs for the Deaf so good. Some songs are downright melodic gems...which honestly I wasn't expecting.

I'm pleasantly surprised.

There are a couple of cool tracks but the only one that really sounds like QOTSA is 3s & 7s, the rest of it sounds like a NIN remix or a desert sessions record. Overall it sounds forced and like it was written by a bunch of rock stars, which unfortunately didn't result in a very cohesive record. I'd like to hear a rough version without all of the massive compression. It took me awhile to warm up to Lullabies and this is also a leaked version so we'll see but for the moment:

Spliney, in your estimation, how many times had you listened to this album before you wrote the above post? Because this is exactly how my review would have read at or before the 5 listens mark.

I just realized that, for the second straight album, the Queens have written a Jive Turkeys song. On Lullabies to Paralyze, it's Track 12. Broken Box. I remember when it came out, I was like, "Damn, this is the best song that Matt and Josh never wrote". Then, on this album, there is "Make it Wit Chu", and it is absolutely a hit Jive Turkeys song. Somebody back me up on this.
