Okay, it's been out for a while, so here are my thoughts:
I was never a big Smashing Pumpkins fan. Although I will admit that there were a few SP songs that really got me ("1979" being one of them). But I never liked Billy Corgan's voice, and I thought he was a jerk because he insulted my favorite band on a daily basis.
Well, Billy seems to be a lot happier these days (Zoloft?), and the new album reflects that. Zwan is more accessible than the Smashing Pumpkins ever were. And the music makes happy. Who couldn't love a song called "Baby, Let's Rock!"
I think the thing I like the most is that this album has no pretentions of being something it's not. The music seems to reflect a general attitude of "Hey, let's get together and make some music that we LIKE and ENJOY." It's happy rock. It's sad rock. It's good rock.
So, I give it a big two thumbs up. And apparently the general public does too, as it was #3 in the Billboard charts the week it was released. Way to go, guys, way to go.
