now you are twisting things around in a Michael Moore type manner. the pictures were posted before the original racist comment was made, by Cookie.



not at all. the negative feedback to my racist comment which was a response to a racist comment that was not criticised made me wonder why people would accept racist humor from one person, but not another.

even more confusing is the idea that somebody would actually respond to a comment like ...

..as if it were a genuine statement.

A little bit back on topic, from the Lantern:

X-Position, a collaboration of Ohio State faculty and graduate and undergraduate students in the department of comparative studies, has organized in protest of the November presidential election because of voting irregularities and discrimination.

Group members use physical and virtual stage performances on the Internet to express themselves. Members have an "X" on their face or right hand, choose individual names like "Ohio mom" and "1789-2004," and makes bold, nonviolent gestures, which represent each individual's civil defiance in their own way.

X-Position will be at the Ohio Statehouse rally at 1 p.m. tomorrow downtown with Rev. Jesse Jackson beginning at 1 p.m. The group will be staging public performances later that evening from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Norka Futon at 780 N. High St. with music, poetry, a film documentary on election problems and the X-Position exhibit.

"After the election we in comparative studies decided to take on the question of voter irregularities and investigate the reason why so many were disenfranchised," said Angeles Romero, OSU instructor in Latina and Latino studies, and an artist-in-residence.

She said the group is using theatrical methods to say it does not trust the system.

"We're photographing people with a particular gesture and an X mark on them to state the belief that their vote might not have counted," Romero said.

She said the system is inefficient, remarking that if the United States can use precision and technological bombing it should be able to run a fair election.

There is documented evidence, Romero said, of a "systematic suppression of the voters" - especially in poor, urban areas.

Nancy Jesser, a senior lecturer in comparative studies, said she took the name of "1789-2004" to signify the Constitution and democracy, and that every vote should count.

"We're making a statement against the way the election happened and also to dissent from supporting the apathy of saying, 'It's too much trouble to push for making every vote count because it doesn't matter anyway,'" she said. "It does matter, and if we're not allowed to have a recount we aren't allowing real democracy to take place because serious problems have occurred."

Jesser said X-position wants an open recount process that will clarify how each person voted.

"Democracy has to have trust and we can have that with an open, transparent and public recount," she said. "Right now we just don't know if our votes counted."

X-Position's mission statement is: "Some people swallow the story. Others refuse. Shake History. Make an X. Wear it."
