So, yeah. I'm new. I joined up because someone told me that there was this great local music and arts forum. Perhaps I've missed it, but browsing through the forums, I can't seem to find anything for local art. The music sections are great, and even the technology, tv, and movie threads have plenty. Am I looking in the wrong place, or is this just simply something that doesn't exist on this site? I'm a local artist, and I do what i can to stay on top of the other local people as well. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Is that an answer? I'll gladly buy beers if it leads to an art thread.

yeah, sorry about that, jokes and distractions are a big part of threads around here, so forgive the punchline, and UnP & i being distracted by shiny things. but also get used to it, cuz it's real f*ckin' common around here . . .

and maybe play with the search function to find some older threads about art * the arts scene. they're out there.

hell, we had a month once where almost 1/2 the board had niagara avatars, simply because so many of us here are big fans of her paintings . . .

My problem isn't so much with the lack of art, it's the wanting to make things that look like other things, without having to actually look at reality. I don't like sunsets, so I'm not going to find an alternative to looking at sunsets that still looks like a sunset. I just won't look at sunsets.

My g/f is an artist, and so are many of my friends as well, and i thank them for their art that are alternative and beautiful. I just can't believe that making art that looks like things is a super alternative to actually looking at things. To me it sounds like a big lie.

just sayin'

When you hear a joke all the fucking time, it makes it less funny. Even worse is when it's not that funny to begin with. And like BS said, it's not like if someone else is discussing making a roast or a BBQ or something I just go "EAT TOFU!" because it would be rude. Hell, I love to cook, and will sometimes discuss cooking meat rationally despite the fact that I don't eat it and have not cooked it in many years.

I guess thanks for the locked thread from 2006 about the PBJ fucktards.

this is why i've always been afraid to ask questions. someone is always a prick instead of trying to help someone out. a simple "we don't do art here" would've been fine.

somewhere I think someone explained how threads often diverge and are occasionally filled with jokes. This would be one of them. The PBJ thread and it's many off-shoots, are of historic scale around here.

Apologies for not spoon feeding you what you wanted.

PS- after you dicked up someone else's hype thread (which traditionally has a no-fighting clause) with your meat eating commentary, i'm a little surprised that you're gettin' all butt-hurt that your thread didn't go exactly as planned.

I do art all the time. I love art, despite it being a lie.

Step 1: Edit your original post.
Step 2: Remove the question mark from the title.
Step 3: Presto.

That answer wouldn't have been entirely accurate. There isn't a specific forum for Art, but it doesn't mean people will refuse to talk about any topic if you have something specific to discuss. Generally speaking, you're not likely to get the results you want if you start a thread with something like "I thought this was supposed to be _______, but you people are _______." Also, I would recommend that you avoid, when possible, calling the moderator a prick. You might not yet be accustomed to the tone of voice some of the more prolific posters use since it doesn't seem to be your sense of humor, but believe me when I say that when someone is trying to insult you, you will know. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt before you come out swinging.

I can't seem to find anything for local art.

fwiw, this is largely true. Perhaps you could start a local arts thread?

What kind of stuff do you do? What's your favorite medium/style/era? Gallery space? Do you like guerrilla art? Does Columbus have influence on the larger art world?

Okay, some of the jokes in this thread are a lot funnier now, having read the vegan stuff. Still, the eye for an eye part is probably over if you let it die, Bestie. Time to gallop off on my white high-horse to quell (or worsen) another battle. Arten the place up.

The name of the piece improves its value immensely.

Thanks. I was afraid that title would be too pedestrian....

I thought most art in Columbus was used to invigorate real estate values.
