Happy Bday Jon. I've been on the left coast, or else I would've been there! I agree that this article was pretty dead-on. I wonder if the chamber of commerce leaders understand that much of the charm and appeal of Columbus is that it doesn't need an identity to prosper? Columbus' "identity problem" lies in the fact that everyone's always trying to define it with some dumb campaign. People don't go to, or live in, places because of their slogans. They generally go places for friends, family, food, jobs, climate, sight-seeing or water-related recreation. The city of San Diego paid a bunch of douchebags a bazillion dollars last year for it's new slogan: Happy Happens. Ridiculous. I don't think it's the slogan that will motivate anyone to buy a plane ticket. Is it possible to tell an entire city, "Bitch, be cool"? |
