Much to your ear's dismay, it's Elliott's fault that I ever got the notion to play my guitar in public. His music was so beautiful and personal and inspirational... every song seemed like it was written for you/me. And his style... the DIY thing or whatever you want to call it... he had this way of ...

Regardless of whether localmusicscene.com is a scam, the idea of having a database of sharable info about your scene and having access to similiar info about other scenes is a no brainer to me. Good idea. Now about doing it yourself from scratch: All the hard work, money, blood, sweat, and tears asi...

I don't know musicfan1, I think originality is overrated. At least it's not a useful means of guaging a bands merit. I mean, if you were to dismiss any music on the basis of originality what would you be left with? I can't think of a band that isn't standing on the shoulders of someone who came befo...

i'm not bitter, i just think they are lacking in many avenues a band has to have in order to make it, or even keep a fan base One of my favorite things about going to see an 84 Nash show is witnessing their amazing relationship with their fans. Everytime I have seen them the crowd and it's enthusia...

I'm glad jeffbuckleyrox mentioned the lack of drums in the beggining of the Wilco set. At the time I thought my ears were temporarily damaged by Sonic Youth and I couldn't hear any frequency below 120Hz. About the rest of the Wilco set, I loved it, but I am a fan. It wasn't the best show I have seen...

I haven't heard the new album yet, but I had to post a reply because I think the sex/image/sellout part of this thread is interesting. First of all, I think you could safely say that Liz Phair has always used her sexuality as a marketing tool. Maybe she didn't think about it that blantatly at the ti...

You know, the only show I hate more than Fear Factor is American Idol. How many nights have I happily sat down to eat my dinner and flipped on the TV only to be repulsed by the site of some idiot chugging pureed chockroach brains? But last night as I watched the Hobbit totally ruin "Here There And E...

He has a point.

That's a sweet turntable. A friend of mine had one that could be hung on the wall and played records vertically. Duffy, if you get one of those and put a fancy picture disc on it... how cool would that be? Shit, you may want two or three. http://www.whightsel.com/duffysrecordplayer.j...

Yeah I keep telling Duffy how records are technologically superior. In 200 years when all his cds have oxidized and all his tapes are demagnetized I'll still be rocking to my new 84 Nash vinyl. Unless I drop it or scratch it or let it sit in the sun.

Wow! There are some sensitive people around here. Lots of hurt feelings. You guys should all calm down and lock that dial to 90.5 WCBE. Getting your daily fix of war stories really puts things into perspective. Every time Thistle and Shamrock comes on I think to myself, God it's so great not to have...

Ooooh good question. First CD was in '87 and was REM's Document in the giant cardboard box that I didn't know what to do with but didn't want to throw away since I just blew 4 weeks allowance on it. First tape was Prince's Purple Rain . That must have been around 1985. My mom let me listen to it in ...

I am starting to think that I don't like getting music 3 months before it comes out. Of course, there is that initial excitment when someone IM's the link and you are watching that download bar like a fiend, but the excitment fades so quickly. Listen to me people! LISTEN! Go out as soon as possible and buy Solomon Burke's 'Don't Give Up On Me'.
