It must be the holiday season because dw/England writer Steve Miller has given us two great live reviews in one week. This time out he reviews Mew, a band I’ve never heard anything about. But let me tell you, after reading Steven’s column I want to own everything from this band. Here’s a highlight of the live review:
At ULU, Mew are treated as if they are returning kings. They?re a football team on a lap of honour, a Hollywood star at a celebrity wedding. The jittery shuddering power-pop of “Am I Wry? No” is received with rapture and it builds from there. Halfway through the set, the crowd applause has become replaced by a crowd roar. Jonas speaks in between a couple of songs but I can?t hear a word that he says. The band look so young, so pretty; if I was fifteen years younger I?d worship them with all the conviction the teenage me could muster. (full review)
